AMD reveals their RX 470 and RX 460 GPUs

Buying the R9 Fury in November last year at £375 was the most expensive GPU I have bought to date..Generally I hadn't gone more than £250...big leap for me....

Point is, I think AMD's is being very sensible here....470/480 GPU's are a very welcome addition to what i call the reasonable price "bang for buck" market in my eyes....As it stands, there's 2 very different types of market and AMD is pushing hard in the one which has the biggest segment and rightfully so.

It will be interesting to see if anybody buys into a Crossfire 480 setup.

My guess

460 = £100 mark?
470 = £140-180
480 = £200 -250

Wow, this sure is a spirited set of posts! Some of these posters should keep in mind there are many uses for lower end gaming cards that cannot be accomplished with apu or igpu options. Totally agree with the ridiculous nature of not considering anything below the $200 range. Having grown up with very limited means, I can clearly remember the pride I felt when I got my first post-school professional job and sprung for a used 6850. To me the lower end GPUs deserve more attention by design since they fill such a. huge segment of devices shipped and can provide incredible advancements to someone who might debate every dollar spent, if available at all. AMD has the right idea here, maybe not the right marketing, but why not spread the tech goodness.

I'd delay the build a month or two if I have to, to save up that extra $50.

Yet again, fact remains some people simply can't afford an extra $50. Just because they are "Gamers" as you label them and not "People", doesn't change the fact that they are still people who have lives and families. Many "Gamers" are super casual just for fun. Look at LoL. It's the most popular game in the world right now and guess what? A $100 GPU will do just fine in that game. Does that make them no longer gamers? Obviously not. Not all gamers are enthusiast. If they were, you'd only see 1080 level prices.

Take other peoples shoes into consideration before just bashing anyone who can't afford only $200. Just like how you don't want people to bash on you for not being able to do something everyone else could.

Those 'people' can use iGPUs or APUs. 'Gamers' should spend the $200.

Well That's got to be the first time I have ever seen a gamer classified by how much they spend on the GPU, Gamers are people who enjoy playing games be it on a iGPU, APU or sli/cf triple monitor setup, that £100- £150 GPU maybe a good upgrade and who are you to class that person as a lesser gamer, unless your intention was to come off as a rich stuck up kid

To be fair, some hardcore gamers shell out around $100 for a game and still game on a low end GPU :D

Really looking forward to the next gen of iGPUs from AMD.

Maybe I can finally get an Ultrabook that can handle light 1080p gaming properly.

Amazing h9 w tax dollars can be used..

You can litterally spend 100~150 Euros for a new graphics card and revive an old Intel Core Quad machine...

You don't need to build a new system with an apu...
I spend 150 Euros 4 years ago for an HD7700 and today it can still run Battlefield 4 mid-low settings no sweat....

Erm what planet are you on? Seriously there are a lot of under privileged people out there that simply cannot afford to part with $200 for a graphics card that could be the families shopping for a month. Some people just can't afford it.

If you look on this thread you will see that a lot of us started with a sub $200 graphics card

People arguing over $50 is just hilarious...

Different cards are needed to fill in the spots for different budgets guys, no need to hate on anyone. I personally always get the best components out there but that's because I am able to. Around 4 years ago however I wouldn't consider anything over £100 as my circumstances didn't allow me..

What are you babbling about? Nobody's getting this it seems.

I'm not telling anyone to stop gaming. I'm saying, get the RX480.

From the POV of AMD, any 'card' below it is not worth and should not exist which could be a threat to AMD's APU market. AMD can exploit that market with APUs. Otherwise people will get the Intel chips with low-end AMD cards. Wouldn't it better if AMD could fill that with APUs, instead of giving half of revenue to Intel? Intel won't have a GPU to compete with AMD, so people will have to go with the APU.

You're missing a small but massive bit of marketing here. There are way more people/systems with integrated Intel graphics than there are with AMD APU's. These people that will NOT spend $200.00 on a graphics card will benefit immensly from a RX 460 or RX 470, and that will be the only upgrade they need for 1080p gaming. You have a crap Dell type desktop with a tiny power supply? Drop an RX 460 in it and you can play games on it at medium settings. Dell has been selling about 10,000,000 of these a year.

Back on a positive point...

Looking forward to seeing how the 480 performs properly, would be a nice little upgrade from my 380!

I think its great that AMD are actually playing to their strengths, bang for buck.

Guys i think there is some misunderstanding atm between eachother.

As far as i've read it, i think Anusha means that the RX480 is a great card for a great price for people with a lower budget but he's opinion is that AMD should fill in the market below the 480 price class with with APU's so AMD can still sell these instead so people wouldn't grab low end Intel CPU's.

Now i do get he's point IF am right and if i read that correctly, but at the end of the day, even if they chose a 470-460 or and AMD APU, it stays AMD. Though ofc both would be best

Something worth thinking about

Right guys, let's keep this civil and on topic. Debate the pricing all you want, but keep the personal comments and attacks on others views to yourselves. Keep the forum friendly please.
