AMD Piledriver predictions.

What do you guys think the performance of the piledriver cpu's will be like, after seeing some trinity reviews, I'm pretty confident AMD have fixed bulldozer andactually brought out a cpu design that makes more sense now, its what bulldozer should have been in the first place. Should be able to compete with the quad core ivy's/sandybridge i7's if they can make small improvements again for the main desktop model, whilst also delivering on their high clock speed promise.

Edit: Compete with them in the multi-threaded benchmarks, not single thread

From the initial review of the Trinity CPU, things are looking better from AMD. They spent more time perfecting (well...not perfecting, but making better) the architecture.

That being said, I don't think they have a chance of competing with Intel on the top end of the processor spectrum just yet.

is "pikedriver" a pun that i dont understand mods be trollin :<

and regarding piledriver im really expecting it to be good, as im still waiting all this time for their release so ic an buy one for my rig

I don't expect it to be very good tbh, I think it would be better for them to go back to the phenoms, make those better and do a die shrink.

Just remember how hyped everyone was over Bulldozer. I had friends tell me that it was going to wipe Intel out of the CPU market...yeah, that went well!

As much as I like Intel, it would be nice for them to have some competition.

I thought they should have done that instead of bulldozer last November. but tbh they had reached the limit on what the architecture was capable of, all that would have done was allow a higher overclocking potential and another couple of cores. Wouldn't of been worth their effort or time tbh.

I predict large amounts of "meh."

Even if Piledriver is good it's still not going to be as good as Intel's offerings. The only thing they can aim for, which they are best at, is price to performance.

I don't expect them to compete with them in all area's, but in the area's why they are typically good are things like multi-threaded tasks and like you said, price to performance. That's where i expect them to excel this time around! (Hopefully)
