AMD officially reveals their 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor

I mean, how much does 8c/16t and 300MHz more in boost clock, actually do in terms of raw fps/gaming performance and overall daily consumer computing make?...

Why go with this over the 3700X for example? Which has an killer TDP as well?

Cores? Absolutely irrelevant. More MHz? Pretty nice, nothing groundbreaking. But the improved architecture might help a fair bit in gaming.

In consumer computing and gaming, no reason to buy more than 6/12 or 8/16.

They're calling it a gaming CPU but unless you're into some sort of content creation as well you'll not need this many cores and threads for years by which point something better will be available for less money.

Marketing aside it's a good deal for a pretty specific audience.

Yup I figured they were going to create a new price bracket.

And, I was only off 50 cents on the price.

Can you tell I did marketing for 2.5 years? Including all if the bummy compulsory seminars?

It's a great gaming CPU.

You can stream and high quality and game without a massive loss in fps. You still lose quite a bit of performance even with 8 core Ryzen or even the 8700k. The 8 core i9 stuff wouldn't be different.

More cores and threads just let's a better playing experience while streaming which many people do.

This! I watched the livestream and they showed a 9900k vs the 3900x livestreaming and it was chalk and cheese the 3900x smashed the 9900k in deliverable quality to the person watching and was smooth for the gamer too

Though assuming AMD VCE is improved in the new 5000 series to match Nvidia's, it's near pointless to use CPU for streaming.

Great News :) Shame about the September release though, was hoping for something this summer...

For me this 16 core is gonna be awesome, I run a lot of vm's (work related) on my 9900k and having to shut them all down when I wanna game is a pain in the ass, I can now leave the labs running in the background and fire up some games when I wanna relax.

Amazing job AMD ! !

did better than me i was 50 bucks out :) but it dose look good AMD have come a long way in the last few years

Irrelevant when most people just throw it on the CPU anyway assuming otherwise. People will buy it for this reason. No harm in it.

3700X and down all look good IMO.
If the leaked benchmarks are anywhere close to real world performance I will finally be able to retire my 3770.
Cannot wait to get my hands on some new hardware and do some tweaking, its been a while since I got the old girl settled she has done well for her age and still more than capable of gaming but 8 cores, 16 threads, higher base and much higher boost with an unlocked multiplier (gonna need some help OCing these i reckon, last time i touched an AMD cpu they had a 200mhz BLCK) and much newer architecture, even at 329 UK its not far off what i paid in 2013. Well played AMD, I said cyberpunk was gonna be the game that made me upgrade, now i just hope they perform :)

Forget the cpu's for a bit, where do we get the superhero figurine ? ?
Watching the video back, I dont think she liked it ! !

Oh man. I mean I understand why they don't. But I'd have loved to have seen an 8-core @ 4.7. I;d be all over that

What makes you think the new 8 cores won't do 4.7? If my 2700X can do 4.35 on all 8 cores, it's not much of a stretch to assume the new 8 cores will be better.
