I think you are right, the amd branded one has been out for a while (think it was released 2012)Didn't this exist quite a long time ?
A friend of mine asked me for a ram disk programm about half a year ago and i think i recommended that. But not quite sure though.
It's basically a way of speeding up read and write speeds.
I don't know all the technical details but you can use it to store data or use it as cache.
When you access something on your HDD/SSD it gets read and cached, but with a RAM disk (depending what you put on it) the data it's already cached. so that time it takes to be read then cached is reduced.
There are other situations for ram disks, i'm not an expert on them but thats my general gist on them.
Thanks dudethat's all i needed, a general gist. So i guess AMD's argument is that by using these in conjunction with your HDD or SSD your games will load even faster
The fact this is charged in Tiers... is total BS.
You can use plenty of free tools for this. People are just getting on the bandwagon now more of us have more ram, the issue is, most games (MOST) are above 10GB these days, so unless you're in the 16~32gb range you're actually pretty limited. And believe me when I say it doesn't always play nice, there is plenty of room for things to go all corrupt on you're ass.
I ran AVP (the new one) straight from a ramdisk and it did run exceedingly quickly, but realisticaly, when will you ever need that?
i can't remember the name of it, i'll fetch you one tonight
scratch that, found it
