hi guys, seen as i have only ever fitted the intel kits i was wondering if there is a tutorial around for the amd 64 easymod kit.

Also a couple of questions if i may:

1. Is it best to leave the heater off the back of the mobo?

2. Can someone explain about the dielectric grease and it's application as i alwas thought it was just a poor conductor of electricity.

reasons for this is i just bought an fx-60 and wanna swap from my 775. Spent a fortune on the parts and really dont want to mess this up

thanks in advance

chris.

If you are talking about fitting an A64 mach2 mounting kit then it is exactly the same as 775 kit

1) it is always recomended that you leave the heater pad on at the back of the motherboard to help stop condensation

2) Dialetic grease is used in the socket ( I also use it on the rear of the motherboard ) to stop condensation it is not supposed to conduct at all do not use it as thermal compound that is another type of paste all together

Also do not put thermal grease anywhere near your seal string or the seal string will not stick

More info

Yeh guys it's the Mach 2 sorry about leaving that out.

The kit is different to the 775 kit, i.e (the metal plate) etc. How can the installation be the same?

Also the reason i asked about the dielectric grease is because i have always just followed the basic rules for installation and if there is anything i should be doing better, i would like to know.

I have had 2 asus mobo's blow on me where the heater sits at the back of the mobo, when contacting chip-con (long time ago) about this he advised me to just leave the heater off.

can you please provide a tad more info about how to apply the grease (and i know its not thermal paste :p).

cheers me dears

Chris

Well ok the metal plate A64 kit I would get some electrical insulation tape and cover the metal so no part will come into contact with any componants then make an outline of sealstring on your mobo rear inside the center ie back of the cpu socket smear some dialetic grease but DO NOT GET ANY ON THE SEAL STRING or it will not seal as for the heater pad as long as it is stuck to the back plate it should never contact any part of your mobo

heres what i think ill do then, does it sound ok?

Back of Mobo:

silicone spray/or dialectric grease? with a layer of neoprene over it, then backplate with heater inside.

Front of mobo: dialectric grease in the chip holes (with paint brush). Silicone spray over main cpu area. Neoprene cut out and places on top of chip area.

Then attatch mach 2 as normal

What you think guys?

just gotta figure out where to buy them now :)

Will this void the board/cpu warranty, any removal tips?

Does the silicone spray just peel?

just curious.

Well personally I was referring to the dilectirc and neoprene.

Be intersting to know about the silicone spray - linky to the actual product could be quite handy also.

Woah boy!

Just checked the AMD kit and there are no screws, Is it just held on with the seal string?, doesnt the evaporator head pull this off when tight? im confused!
