I'm sold on these 5000 series, I need the IPC. My 3900X has done well but it's single thread performance is holding me back for VR. I'm still undecided on which of the 59s to go for, the 5900X looks to be cracking value for compute verses the undeniable halo feelgood factor of the 5950X. Eeny meeny miny mo
The Big Navi peak was also pretty cool, if it comes in at 3080 FE pricing (msrp), I can use that to justify going for the 5950x as I was / am willing to pay upto 1k for a top line card that isn't Nvidia. I'm really really interested in how it'll go under Linux & ROCm.
Explainer for above, I do a bit of simming (IL2 Sturmovik Great Battles mainly) and I'm getting a HP Reverb G2 which works under Steam VR, IL2 likes single thread perf, VR likes single thread perf but I also use my rig for VM's and coding so it's got be a good jack of all trades. I'm one of those few people that prefer the AMD graphics drivers over the Nvidia ones for raster image quality and general ease of use and the AMD have caused me far less hassle than Nvidia drivers in a Wintel environment over the last 2 years - stupid stuff like running 3 screens on an Intel / Nvidia machine can be a complete pita whereas a Radeon / Ryzen setup just works. Another strip down and rebuild coming up
Project Tuxedo got a new motherboard (Crosshair VIII) a while back so I need to shift some cards about to allow me use the Type 3 USB header, I'll hold off till the new Ryzen arrives circa 7th Nov.
