AMD Announce R9 285X and R9 285 GPUs

Today during AMD's live stream, which celebrated 30 years of graphics and gaming, AMD spent a bit of time announcing and teasing new graphics cards, the R9 285X and R9 285.

I hope they price it better than the 265 what cost almost the same as the 270. The 750ti is a bad example too, it costs almost like the 660 what is ~20% faster.

So the 285x has 2GB of Vram but the 280x has 3GB or Vram. Seems like strange naming if the 280X is seemingly higher end than the 280x. Am I right?

It depends how the performance works out. Some vendors may offer 4GB versions.

I just watched the Stream guys. September 2nd is the date for all the new AMD releases. And the 2GB version of this card will be down to 249$
Which is not bad at all, provided it performs as AMD claims it can perform

There are two version of the card. One with 2GB and one with 4GB

So these sit between a 280 and a 290, not much of a gap to fill really, they seem a bit pointless. Unless AMD plan on discontinuing the 280 and 280X in place of these.

Some good games in the latest never settle though, especially SC and AI.

so priced at £150 not bad but here is the question I have to ask myself do I get 2 of these for crossfire or buy A R9 280x to crossfire with my HD7970 I'll wait for the reviews before I decide also Nvidia have their 900 cards coming out soon

They seem to be phasing out the 280/280x judging by the pricing and lack of stock in some Etailers.
