Hey guys,

I have a 965BE C3 edition that I have clocked to 3.8GHz prime95 stable.

Running at about 32*c idle and about 52*c load.

I need some help reaching 4GHz prime stable

I would just like to make it stable just to say I have done it

My specs are as follows:

965BE at 3.8GHz

Asus Crosshair IV Formula

4GB G-Skill DDR3 1600MHz @ 7-8-7-24

These are the settings in the BIOS atm:

CPU Ratio - 19

CPU Bus - 200

DRAM - 1600MHz @ 7-8-7-24

CPU Voltage - 1.450000

CPU/NB Voltage - Auto

DRAM Voltage - 1.65

All other settings are Auto

Thanks for any help

Just so you know, a lot of review sites have been unable to hit 4GHz stable for 24hour use, so your chip might not be able to manage it.

But have you considered tinkering with the FSB speeds? Sometimes to get the best overclock you need to get the right balance between the bus speed and multiplier.

What CPU cooler do you have? I also have the 965BE C3. My cooler is hyper 212+ and I am also running it at 3.80ghz idling at 31c and maxing at 55c (prime) having the fan spin at 700-1400 RPM.

Overclocking your fsb (bus speed) will help you a lot. Not only will it speed up your ram but pretty much everything else in your system too. I've heard that a chip running at 3.2Ghz/300fsb will outperform a chip running at 4ghz/200fsb. Personally i'm currently running 3.75ghz off 1.325v with a 250mhz fsb (i can go higher) on my 955BE. When i get better cooling for my mosfets and lap my CPU i'll be trying to hit 275mhz+ bus speed and 4ghz+ on the chip (bear in mind i'm using crappy MATX with only 4+1 power phase lol).

In order to get 4ghz, you just need time to understand your system and what it's limits are. In all likelyhood you'll need at least 1.4875v to get 4ghz+ - maybe more. Also remember to O/C your NB/HT (10x or 11x multi should be fine for both) and try to MAX-OUT your bus speed if you can for optimal performance. With your motherboard you should be aiming to get 300fsb imo - or at least come close to it. That would be a 50% overclock on your motherboard, certainly bringing you closer to or even exceeding the performance of an i7 9xx if you've got your chip running @ 4ghz+.

Also try setting your ram to just under 1600 if you can, you will lower your latencies by doing so. My system always has trouble even booting when overclocking and running such high frequencies, AMD chips seem to prefere tighter timings from what i've read.

tried afew things im happy with this setup atm but am still looking and playing(obv.

) thanks for the links tho!

I havent been able to make anything as stable as what I have now, 'tight as a nut' atm tbh

seems happy enough with 1.5? sure it likes having some juice?!

AMD forever!

I recommend 1.5 to 1.525v max with the 955 CPU to get a stable 4 gig overclock.

Try bumping the Bus Speed to around 215 with a 19x Multi. That will give you 4085 Mhz.

That way you can validate it... and if your CPU Cooler can handle it, leave it at that. For something more permanent, bump up the Bus speed and lower the Multi (General Rule). Make sure it is stable by running programs like Prime95.

Also I recommend you put the CPU/NB voltage to the exact same as the vCore voltage.

Run the RAM at the recommend voltage and frequency at first. If you decide you want to O/C that, get a stable CPU frequency first and then do the RAM.
