Well that explains it, I don't really want multi GPU ATM. You do know that when you Crossfire/SLI you are signing a contract promising headaches! :P
 
I think it looks fine as it is. Yeah a fancier design would be nice but i'd wager would add to costs as well. And I've been running xfired 7970's for several months now absolutely no issues at all.
 
The new cooler will outperform xfx's answer to cooling, thats a given ;D. I'm quite excited about the new series of cards that AMD will offer. While I love the new stock coolers on the 700 series I still have nightmares about my experience with Nvidia :l.

haha, i will never buy xfx cards again, mine didn't even have heat pads on all the vram chips. this caused my a few games to crash from time to time after a long gaming session and prevented any overclocking of the ram.

the problem wasn't too bad, i guessed it was drivers until i took the cooler off and noticed this. now i have heatsinks on the ram i can now overclock and play games with no issues.
 
My xfx card is a rare one. It works and cools just fine, even on an OC . To be fair it might have been down to the 140mm fan sitting right next to it. Build quality is pretty poor as well and I made the comment as I've seen quite a few people complain about their xfx cards getting waay too warm.

XFX- keeping the case fan industry alive since 1989.

That was sort of my strategy! ;)

Yeah I never hear great things about XFX lol, usually bad things. My 7970 is nice and cool 24/7, I'm going to reapply some different thermal paste when I put an H100i in to get even better temps, I doubt Asus did a good job lol.

I'm no hardware engineer but it perplexes me how adding 16 more cores will be feasible on 28nm lithography and keep the heat down. 7xxx run hot as it is. I wonder how much of a difference it's going to make before being programmed. Will it cause issues? It will take a long time before it's beneficial and not a paper weight.

Hope the 8950 gets the extra ROPs too. I've been needing an upgrade for a long time and I think I want this or a $200ish 7950.
 
Extra ROPs alone won't gain a huge advantage in performance. All needs to be balanced properly so you get an even amount of overall performance.
