AMD 7 Series Release Date

Seeing that 6970's are thin on the ground atm, Im hoping this is correct.

It's great to see video cards are using less power in the future. It looks like the 6970 and the 7870 are closely matched. It will be really cool to see more info on the new AMD video cards to be released.

No news as of yet, I found out the announcement yesterday was for press only but slides and info will be leaked all the same as it always does.

Those specs you posted are the ones that have been around for a while they have dropped the XDR2 memory now though for GDDR5 on the 7950 and 7970 but things may change and they might still use it.

Does anyone else think this sounds a bit good to be true? Id love the new cards to be that much better but I just dont see it happening for some reason. Mabey im just a pessimist

The specs seem realistic to me, it's similar to the the new architecture, lower TDP and increased performance of Sandy Bridge.

Same thing is happening with these new gen cards, they have a new smaller architecture with a lower TDP and increased performance. The specs may not be 100% legit but I wouldn't expect them to be far off what they actually are.

Except AMD's GPUs have nothing to do with their CPUs, people should really stop thinking about AMD GPUs in the same way as they do about AMD CPUs, they aren't not the same.

People seem to forget that AMD was/is ATI (they just dropped the ATI branding) and that ATI were in the leed of the GPU market for two years before the Nvidia 5 series.

Im thinking they dropped the 7970 and 7950 because their just too powerfull, More money to be made on the way to that architecture.?

Say if a 6970 was pci-e 3, Would their be a proformance increase from pci-e 2.

What was x16 x16 PCI-E 2 will be x8 x8 PCI-E 3, graphics cards don't fully use anywhere near the bandwidth of PCI-E 2 yet so what PCI-E 3 actually offers is unkown yet.

That's what the rumors are at the moment.

If you look at the line up of the 6 series you have the 6850 and 6870 which are midrange and the 6950 and 6970 that are high end.

The 7 series is the same, the 7850 and 7870 are midrange and the 7950 and 7970 are high end. So with the 7870 you have a midrange card that has the performance of a high end previous generation card with a lower TDP and a slight performance increase, at a lower price.
