Is it that unexpected? AI as a field of study has been around for decades and the core principles hasn't changed much. The "AI" we see is, and always has been, feeding it information and hoping it regurgitates out better information to put it simply. The only real difference now is it's faster and easier to create models, and it's getting more limelight in the public as a new buzzword
