Advices for 800-900€ gaming rig

Hi everybody, i'm new here and i'm new to the pc building world.
I'd want to build my first pc, as a gift for 18th birtday of a friend.
The budget, as the title says, should be around 800-900 eur and I've been looking for 2 months what pieces should fit the best.. Unfortunately i have gone a bit further the budget for the pieces i'd want to put there in, so i'm asking you what to change in the list to make it cheaper without losing much power..
(I never built a pc so i'd love if someone posted me a video or something that explains how to do it!)

Here is the list:
MOBO Msi z87-G45
CPU Intel i5-4670K
GPU Msi R9 280X
PSU Corsair CX750
RAM 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance
SSD Samsung 840EVO 120GB (+ 1Tb external HDD that i will try to mount there in)
Cooling Corsair H80i
Case Cooler Master 690 III
By looking all prices on amazon (i'm not sure that is the best place for looking at pc components tho) the overall price should be 1068€.. A bit too much for our finances..

Looks like a nice pc to me, the only thing I would suggest changing is the H80i. 120mm rads usually do not perform as good as you'd expect them too and you would be better off with a cheaper active-cooled block, or pay 20 euro's more for the H100i.

As for building the pc itself, look up one of Linus' build guides on Youtube.

Hey Everth! I'm not the most knowledgeable, but i'll try to help/offer some advice if i can! :fish:

The build looks pretty nice, though you'd like to reduce it if possible? Ok, i have to say i haven't read into these mother boards, but are a bit cheaper (i think?) & could mild oc (would have to read up/investigate before buying)

The Gigabyte Z87-HD3 on amazon is £85 atm, but seen it for £70, also the Gigabyte Z87X-D3H is £99 & an MSI Z87-G43 is £87 (would have to read into them for oc&features)

If you wanted to use air, you could check out a few (&prob more than i mention) Maybe a Thermalright True Spirit 140BW (£30) - its big though, or a Raijintek EreBoss (£30) Alpenföhn Matterhorn (£30) Just a thought! But if you want the aio cooler, no worries!

You could also, depending on price check out Seasonic psu's for price.

Anyhows, i'm no pro, but hoped this helps, for research or ideas!

Also, there are quite a few pc guides on youtube, i thought a guy called Carey Holzman was pretty cool (there are many though)

Regarding the liquid cooling i've read something good about Noctua's fans but i don't know which one would fit (even though they sell a lga 115X adaptor).. If someone could suggest what model to take it would be nice.. Would a 120-140mm fan be enough for the 5760K overclock?

The 'killer ethernet' doesn't really make much difference, all these boards have at least gigabit ethernet. On-board audio does vary though, there's a lot of different boards with good on-board audio. Every Z87-board gives approximately the same clocks, so that's completely up to you. I'd recommend not going for the most expensive, but look at what you reallyneed.

A 120mm aio cooler would do the oc-job fine, but you can get the same performance out of a active cooler like the BeQuiet Shadow Rock 2. I have that one myself and I'm getting great temperatures
As squidlorock stated in his post, there's more good coolers that would do the job. Just make sure you choose low-profile ram because all of these coolers are quite big.

Probably the case is chosen because of the style but there are cheaper cases that look nice and might do the job just as good.
Also the performance gain between H60 or H80 isn't worth the extra money in my opinion.
For the PSU there are defintly cheaper brands then Corsair, but Corsair quality is of course top notch. Maybe you can check for a lower wattage?
Also for memory there are cheaper option then Corsair
(Don't get me wrong, I'm a Corsair Fanboy)
Maybe for the SSD try to go for a Samsung Pro-series, better performance and the price is not that much more.

Go for the G43. As TheOuterOne said the Killer Ethernet is not really something to spend more money on. On-board audio is never "good", if you want good audio, you're going to need a dedicated sound card but that doesn't mean that that of the G43 isn't still 'better' than standard.

Any cooler that fits 1156/1155 will also fit 1150. Personally, I'd recommend stepping down to air cooling like a BeQuiet! cooler or even the €25,- Hyper 212 Evo which won't be as good, but it's the best cooler out there for the price and let's be honest; It's a budget build and a 4670k will perform fine even at stock clocks so any overclock is a bonus. Oh, and don't overclock using OCGenie.

As far as the PSU goes, you won't need 750 Watt with that configuration. Feel free to bump it down to a CX600m or even a CX500m will be fine. There are also a few Seasonic units out there between 500-650 Watts for decent prices and those are of really high quality.

Replace the Samsung Evo drive with a Crucial M500 120GB. Personally, I'd rather have the Samsung but as mentioned before; You're on a budget. That said, Crucial is still one of the best SSD brands out there and os reliability won't be an issue.

Last thing you can save money on is the case. True, the CM 690 III offers a lot of expansion and upgrade possibilities, but if it's not in the budget, this €85 case is an easy way to save money on by replacing it with something such as the
Corsair 200R/ 300R/ 330R/ 230T, CM Storm Scout II, Bitfenix Shinobi/ Shadow/ Ronin, Nexus Prominent R or the NZXT H230.

I swapped some piece for the sake of power and that's what i've come across:

ASUS GTX 770 3Gb
2x4Gb Corsair Vengeance Ram
Intel i5-4670k
Corsair H-100i
Samsung 840 Evo 120GB ssd

Subtotal 997€, a bit higher than the 800-900 but still under the 1000!
What do you think?

I think the Arc Midi R2 should cost the same as the 400R and it's more of an up-to-date case that also features a window, so personally I'd go for that.
