Advice

I'm going to build my first PC 'cause I got bored of dell's and hp's.Now that I have done my research and everything,I have a few queries that need to be answered.

I had posted a similar topic couple of months ago, but at that time my finance wasn't sorted out so I didn't pay too much attention. Here's a rough list of the hardware that I'm planning to get:

Case: Cooler Master HAF X

CPU: Intel i7 950

Mainboard: Had decided on MSI Xpower but I'm starting to think it will be overkill for an SLI setup.

GPU: MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk in SLI.

PSU: Corsair HX750.

HDD: 1 SSD as boot drive,1x1TB caviar black sata6 for games, 1x1TB caviar black sata3 for media storage and downloads.

Heatsink: Obviously a noctua D14.

The first thing I want to ask is what mainboard do you recommend?Should I go ahead with the x power or is there some other mainboard that you think would do the job.

I think that a 750W PSU would be enough but is it really? or is it too much?

Finally what SSD should I get and what size?Who makes the better of the ssd's considering the price point.

That's all I can remember for now.If you reply and some new problems arise than I will let you know.

Cheers.

Update: The case,PSU,GPU,heatsink and the CPU are fixed and an order has been placed.

i have not built a computer myself but i am looking into one just like yours.

With the SSD i would sugest about 90 gig just because you want to be able to put a couple of games on it and well lets be honest this days games are about 8 gig each, But if you have the money i would go for a 120 gig

Well it's good that this thread will help you as well,so make sure you ask your queries too.

AS for the HDD I have a separate 1TB sata 6 HDD for games which will be more than enough.SSD is only for the OS and a few software's like visual studio, netbeans, etc. so me being very practically oriented I don't like to waste money on things that I absolutely don't need.

Cheers.

750w should be enough for all of that

mobo wise i would say the asus sabertooth x58

ssd depends how many apps your gonna install i have 120gb one and have only use 25gb of that for o/s, office, itunes etc so 60gb might be enough for you, go with what fits your budget

i'd really recommend using a sandy bridge based build for upgrade-ability...

and a nice processor...

more like an i7 2600k or an i5 2500k...

and get a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3...

awesome mobo...

@Mad The purpose of my build is mainly gaming and secondly software development.

@Alicarve As you said I might have to think of the SSD budget as well.

@death I personally don't like anything other than the x58 and will have it until the release of x79,thanks for your suggestion
