Hi there I'm looking at buying a waterblock for my asus(ie non-reference) 5850 and the only option open to me is an ek block found one second hand to keep costs down from ebay but looking at the picture the nickel plating seems to have worn through of a few places. Now I know that won't effect performance much but there was a big kick up when ek blocks nickel plating was failing something to do with the chemical reactions in the loop just want to know if it would effect a loop at all or just a sign of age and nothing to worry about. On a similar note could I get it replated and any ideas how much it might cost me?

As far as I know all the EK nickel stuff made before they changed the process are affected by the flacking issue. If it does flake whilst you have it in a loop it could clog your CPU block up and damage your pump also the block would be useless if all the nickel came off.

I wouldn't risk it tbh the only way you could get it replaced is if you had the original receipt and then EK would replace it with one of the new EN blocks but without the original receipt they won't do it. Best to save for another couple of weeks for the money for a brand new one imo.
