About fan splitters?

Guys, gals, got a question. My motherboard, the asus maximus ix hero has 4 chassis fan headers, but i want to hook up 6 corsair ml140 fans in the case. I dont want to use a fan controller or hub, but i want to have them hooked up to the motherboard. Ive heard that you can use fan splitters and it will work, but then ive read that it will burn out your motherboard? Please help me to learn, i cant find any concrete information about this anywhere. Is it safe to use a fan splitter for this to work?

So as long as i keep my amps on the fans lower than the max amp of the header than im good right? Thank you for replying! I really appreciate it!

Exactly.
You should check the motherboard manual for each header max amp output. It will most likely be 1 amp per header. In that case, running 3 ML fans from one header is okay. They each consume .259 Amps, which for 3 is .777 Amps. So still within the limit.

Thanks very much guys, i really appreciate your help! And yea, i forgot about the hi_amp header, 3 amps is a lot for a header!
