There really is no difference between that and my Linksys on the PCI. Its not going as fast as gigabit wirelessly so theres no point.

Yes, that's exactly the point. Because mobos are coming with less and less PCI slots it's nice to see things like this comeing out for the PCI-E x1 standard. This leaves more room for sound cards, TV tuners, etc.

Ya, soon as there`s a whole range of pci-e cards available, they`ll start making mobos with 1 pci slot, then none.

In alot of cases u`r correct, there are absolutely no need for there to be pcie versions of the cards - hell alot of cards would suffice on the old isa bus - but how are they gonna make any money if u keep using u`r old cards ?

I doubt they'd suffice with isa. If they bothered to get 802.11n etc out the door, then there'd be a real reason to buy them, not this rubbish .

It's good for systems which don't have standard pci slots. There are motherboards which only have pci express slots now. (altho for wireless what's wrong with a usb wireless adapter??)

Considering my only PCI-E 1x is coverd by a heatsink it IS completely pointless to me and im not upgrading till prolly AM3 or somethin. And USB devices cant have a nice 15db gain antenna on a nice long cord either

The point is, they could work.

However, if u continued to use the cards u bought back in the isa days, they`d never make any monies

U had 5 pci slots.

Now u`r gonna get 5 pcie slots.

In a year or two u`r gonna get another slot range creep in.

U can call it progression, but unless there`s an advance in cards u can use - besides gfx ones, and arguably sound ones - is there any progression other than getting u to buy new cards ?

If u`ve bought a raiding sata2 pci card, next year u more than likely gonna have to buy new ones for u`r new mobo. They`ll work the same.
