Abit Airpace, Vista 64 Driver problem!

Hi there

I'm back home from uni now, here at home we've got a standard wireless network going on for internet etc.. I can to install my old wireless pci card (MSI something or other) only to find that the drivers do not work. I searched the internet only to find that it is simply a very old card and the newest drivers are those that support xp 64. I tried to download and install those but had no luck there.

So i set about getting a new card.. I ended up with:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=530773

Abit AirPace.. simply because it was cheap enough and I could find sostware on the internet for 64 bit Vista.

I've tried to install and setup the card but to no avail :( So far I have:

* Fitted the card and installed 64 bit software ( They install fine but I get a message saying that it cannot detect the card)

* Removed software, reinstalled, refitted (Again same results)

* Tried installing the software with no card fitted (This will not install the drivers)

So I know that the imputer detects the card and if I go to the device manager it shows as Ethernet Controller. When I have installed the software nothing changes and device manager still says it can't find it!

If anyone knows any steps that I can take to make this damned thing work then I will be incredibly grateful :) I'm itching to play TF2!

Right now I'm off to try a fresh install of vista on a spare HDD, otherwise it might mean back to XP for a while :(

Thanks for taking the time to read this epic!

Cheers guys :)

had same problem with my Biostar t-force board just wouldnt install, must be a incompatibility issue. try useing a usb adapter

Think the issue here is not detecting the card.

I had a similar thing with a pci Auzen soundcard, and there was some kind of delay patch to download of their site.

Gimme a mo to check with the Abit forums and see what comes up.

(yes very busy here :p)

Yep those are the ones. I've installed vista on a spare disc and it lets me install the drivers for the wireless from there. I don't think they are any different to the ones you've linked to online, but with a fresh install they work fine.

So I'm just going to backup my stuff and then reinstall on here, seems to be the easies way around it. I've googled and looked on the abit forum and found there are plenty of people with the similar problems, and loads of potential solutions, eg turning pc off, installing different brands drivers etc..

So, I think a reinstall is in order in a second..

I'll give that a go and it should do the trick, always seems to most things

Cheers :)

Be nice if u could image ur harddrive, or stick in a spare harddrive. That way if it doesn`t work ur not left in a "back to square 1" situation.
