A starting watercooler

So I'm interested in branching into the watercooling department, but as I am COMPLETELY new to it, I was thinking about starting up on a simple CPU watercooling kit. I've noticed that there are reviews on here between 4 WC kits, and I guess I'm looking for something around the £120 region.

Ideally I'd like it to be as cheap as possible as I only want to "test the water", no pun intended ! So anyhow, any offers and suggestions are totally welcome.

Well I currently have a Q6600 G0 stepping, and an ASUS P5N-E. I know there two aren't the best combo's and I stuggle to OC any at all... which is why I plan to get a new motherboard, and I just want to have a nice strong overclock for my Q6600.

The rest of my components go...

4GB Corsair XMS2 800mhz

GTX 260 216pipes

I heard quads work nicely with with P35 chipsets, so do you have a cheap yet decent recommendations for that ? :worship:

Are you looking for an internal solution is so we need the case my friend.

260 and overclocked quads can get quite toasty so you would probs be looking at a thermochill 120.3, x3 fans, pump, res, GPU block, CPU block, tubing, barbs, paste etc...

What we could do with is the case to see what room there is to play with and pics would be nice too

The pump and rad hit the £120 mark alone nevermind adding the GPU block in there too.

If you only doing the CPU then £120 is viable ish.

If it's internal it would be good, but I'm not too fussed. Everything's housed in a CM 690, so it even has 2 holes at the back for watercooling.

As I said I only wanted to try it out so I only want watercooling for my CPU first, the 260 can stay on air for the time being. I really don't want to spend too much. I just wonder if those "kits" are worth it.

Is the ASUS P5K motherboards any good ? I'm tempted to upgrade it to that as google tells me it's quite a nice overclocker with the Q6600. Also I can bag a fully working 2nd hand Swiftech H2O-220 compact watercooling kit for ~£80. Would it be beneficial at all ?

As I said I don't want to spend a huge amount. I just want to be able to nicely overclock my Q6600 and see how everything goes.

Can reccommend the P5k its a spanking board and o/c's a treat.

Obviously it depends on the chip you have as to how far you can push it and what the ram's like.

That kits a nice compact little setup and should allow a decent overclock with reasonable temps. The fans can be a little noisy at 12v apparently but can be reduced to 7v.

Personally never used one but never heard anything bad about them.

Believe me once youve tried water and had sucessful results you never go back.

Word of warning though.. its a money pit!!

I may invest in it and test it out. I do have a spare AMD PC which I can always port the kit over to. I may try this out, and I'll let you know how I get on !
