A Skylake-EP processor has appeared on eBay

To be fair there's nothing at all incorrect in that listing, the part number and specs are spot-on - that said there's no heat-sink and I've not seen them shipped without them, which strikes me as a bit odd. But otherwise this looks like a legit part.

P stands for Platinum, as a part of the new naming scheme for the Xeon range. Platinum 81**. Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Well, it turns out Linus (LTT) bought them!! Not giving anything away as the video is not on youtube yet (Floatplane)

I hate Xeons that use weird sockets. That means you are tied to companies like Supermicro and the boards look gash. 2ghz is pretty lame too. That is what they usually give the initial batches of ES, so that they don't give too much away.

Talking of ES. I have been on ES for about ooo, five years now? maybe more tbh. You just can't find that sort of value anywhere else, at any point of the market.

About 7 months back I bought my 14 core ES. 28 threads. I paid £360. It does 3.2ghz on the first 4 and then a solid 2.9 on the rest with OC Genie.

Yesterday I bought another one. This time a 10 core. Will do the same sort of speeds. However price? £160. You tell me another CPU anywhere that can offer that sort of power and threading for that little cash.

Still running a 8 core Ivy ES too. 3.4ghz, cost me £120 about dead on a year ago.

In fact, once I upgrade Dianoga all of my rigs will be on ES lol.
