A little Help

Hello, I have not been here for a while but was hoping someone could help. Can I ask if new Packard Bell laptops that run Windows Vista need Tattooing like the old ones that ran Windows XP did or whether they can be recovered normally like any other laptop. Thankyou for any replies.Cheers Ben.

Hello, it is a procedure that must be carried out before the operating system can be installed. It involves indentifying all major parts of the laptop so that these can interact with each other properly. You are given lists to choose from to tell the system the exact type of mainboard, keyboard, screen, wireless card, dvd drive etc. If you identify an incorrect part the loading of the operating system will be halted with a 'Glue parts error'. Cheers Ben.

Well that's odd that Packard Bell feel they have to do things awkwardly!

Whenever I have installed an O/S on a laptop the components are recognised in the BIOS, and all the standards run through ok until you install the proper drivers in the O/S to gain full functionality.

However, with this said, one would assume that this tattoo procedure is lower than an O/S so they'd be a problem no matter what O/S you install.

I do quite a few re-installs, so thanks for letting me know about this as I'll now avoid Packard Bell laptops!! ;)

I hope someone else can be of more help...

Not to worry, it's the company I work for (repairing laptops) they have a new contract and it is all the Packard Bell laptops from Mastercare. We have around 170 laptops coming in a day and they are all Packard Bell. Having worked with these before I am starting to feel sick in the stomach at the thought of it. There are only ten of us to do the lot and I can feel the headache coming on now! Thanks anyway.

...that works out as 17 for you, good luck with it!! :)

I had a Google but there isn't really a lot on it out there, except to use the original restore disk - then I guess install Vista over the top through 'upgrade'.

This sounds like/could be Packard Bell's continuation of a security drive for lap-tops whereby simply changing one part of a stolen lap-top such as the hard drive would render that lap-top useless. It may also be a money spinner whereby the lap-top user/owner has no option to return the unit to the manufacturers. Then again it may be something totally different! :D

It's the first time I have heard of this tattooing procedure, unfortunately I cannot help further but wish you all the best for this forthcoming headache. Why not throw a sicky till it's all over! LOL ;)
