Ok, first off, if I have posted this somewhere I shouldn't please forgive me. I did have a quick mosey but couldn't find a similar area to post requests for advice and serious review.
Since my C2D decided to do an impression of a toaster a few months ago thanks to the CNPS10X not being happy with my GAEP45UD3P P45ICH10 mobo and one of the screws pressing against a little transistor-type thingy (ok so I'm not technical on such matters)......I've been looking to build a new tower.
I've settled on:-
i7 920 with DO Stepping
Asus X58 Deluxe
G-Skill Low Latency 6GB DDR3 RAM
2x Samsung ODD DVDRW+/-
HD1 = Samsung 1500GB 32mb 7200rpm
HD2 = Samsung 500GB 32mb 7200 rpm
HD3 = WD 500GB 32mb 7200 rpm
PSU = Corsair HX850
CPUC = Xigmatek S1283
OS = Vista 64Bit Ultimate (Already have the Win7 upgrade option too)
GPU = Sapphire 5770 GDDR5 1GB
Case = Coolermaster ATCS 840
These may not be the best of the best, but my knowledge and research to date leads me to believe that what I have chosen is a good combination; however will the i7 920 handle 3.4-3.6GHz without citing toasterlike incidents and if so how easy is this to achieve for a novice like myself - a customer advised me that Asus have their own software which is shipped with the board which helps / guides a user through OC (I don't know yet as I have always used gigabyte MOBO's and I know they do)? I have had a mosey online and different people on different forums are saying opposing things. So i thought I'd ask the experts.
Also - is it possible to overclock the 5770? If so, how would I do this and how far is "safe"?
Thanks for your help
The entire build is costed at £1200 limit......I have the HDD's already - so no need to cost them
