A cheap rig with UMPH!

Hi guys,

Sorry I haven't been active here lately. I will try and make it just to make a post or 2 a day from now on. I have had so many personal/family issues and troubles that finding time to come on here is hard.

Anyhoo..

I've been out of the tech scene for many months to nearly a year now so all the graphics and processors are pretty much blah blah to me, so any explaining why and why not to go for X or Y would be great.

I'm feeling the withdrawal symptoms of not having a nice PC. I am currently using my HP laptop as my main rig, which as you can guess sucks for anything other than programming and watching videos.

I am looking into buying a new rig that will tide me over until I have settled down and such.

I don't have a budget but I would want it to be < £600.

What I want it for:

Programming

Video editing

Playing games (newish, like Brink)

What I require:

CPU & heatsink(Quad pref that has the highest stable over clock on air with low temp) (lol don't ask for much do I?)

Motherboard (OVERCLOCKABLE)

Graphics card (ATI or Nvidia)

RAM(Loose timings)

HDD(any size tbh)

PSU(more than enough power)

I do have a spare case which is suitable for a new rig so that's no worries. I will still need a monitor, but I can sort that out (lol).

Thank you guys, it's good to be back

, so many more posts!!!

Not sure how hardware prices are by you, but I'd try to shoot for a 2500k based build.

2500k = $225

NH-D14 = $90

GB UD4 = $180

Mushkin or G.Skill 8GB (4GB x2) 9-9-9-24 1600 = $95

Corsair TX750 = $100

WD Black 640GB = $59

nVidia GTX460 1GB = ~$150

Total = $900

£600 is about $850

If you dropped to 4GB of ram instead you would save about $50. I'd probably push the budget though and get the 8GB for video editing and even $100 further to get a GTX560Ti.

Thanks guys

...

If anyone can get me a rig that is overclockable and has all the kit I need for <= £300 I would be happy!

Looking at getting a nice monitor and desk with rest tbh.

. I will take a look at that thestepster and I'm reading it now Pat123. Will reply back tomorrow as I have to read it on my PS3 now as laptop scan schedule >.<. Any more information and links would be great. Perhaps I can learn some more and get more involved in the PC scene now!

Cheers!

Ha, yeah of course Mam!

I'm still looking, I've found the right desk, I'll post when I get on PS3 later. Costs a bomb, so need a cheaper PC lol.

£300 is suitable for me, if anyone got a full PC package minus monitor and case, you're the best.

I'm hoping to get my old comp back.

Q6600 @ 3.6

Noctua NP heatsink

XMS2 4-4-4-12 4GB

Asus P5Q Mobo

ATI 4870 512mb

OCZ 750w PSU

Hoping to God that I can get it back for moneys! I miss it sooo much lol, getting excited to get a new rig tbh, first time in a long time I've been excited about computer hardware.

More links the better guys, thank you.

Hi Youngie, this is the rig I would build if I was in your situation, its very good price to performance wise and just under your budget, the 6870 should be in stock soon by the way. The motherboard, cpu, ram and cooler costs (inc. VAT) £293.88

Minus the 10.50 as you can get free aria shipping through this forum with over 50 posts, which i would use perhaps to get 1600 MHz RAM or a better cooler.
