990FX choices and delima

Ok after serious thinking and budget looking. I was considering a 1366 rig for a change of pace. But cost for the change over are way out of budget constraints. So I am staying AMD for the time being. Now I have watched Neweggs youtube vid with Paul from Newegg and J.J from Asus going over the 990FX chipset based boards. One thing I found really interesting is how J.J. explained how the prior chipsets were mainly for the dual core cpu's and bios revisions allowed quads and hexes to run on them but not at full potential. Where-as the 990FX will open up more lanes for the quads and hexes to fully shine. So I will be getting an 990FX board prolly next week. Now heres my delima lol I like both the Sabertooth and Crosshair Formula V boards. They each have different reasons for me liking them for instance the Sabertooth is colored to better suit my mods I'm about to do. (well closer than the red and black of the CHFV) And is a tad cheaper cost wise to the CHFV but not by alot. Also the Sabertooth has built in temp probes that allow you to easily check temps in different areas of the case with out having to attach tacky probes all over the place. And lastly the Sabertooth has 12 phase power for better oc'n. The CHFV is a beast of a board having EXTREME Digi+ VRM the ROG stuff included software that I would actually use lol. (big bonus in my eyes) SupremeFX X-Fi 2 sound onboard ( I dont run an extra sound card) but the red and black color scheme lol wont go well with my mods true it wont be seen post build other than the outside of the case where the best mod will be. Basically wanting to sleeve the psu and all wires inside case

both boards support 3way SLI with the CHFV supporting 4way with an extra daughter board.

both allow better usage of OC'd memory with the Sabertooth at 1866 and the CHFV up to 2133

CHFV 3 yr warranty versus the Sabertooths 5yr

Please comment your opinion of them also feel free to post about other 990FX boards as well and your thoughts on them. I will change to AM4 when that comes around but for now no need to say wait for it

Also please dont say go Sandybridge or anything of the likes if I wanted to go back to novice oc'n (multi only) I'd be there already

Do not mean to offend anyone with that but its my opinion. I see some AMD oc'r also doing that and I shake my head lol.

So Please post ur AMD 990FX mobo opinions and lets leave SB where it belongs

the CHV is the way to go if you want to 'go early', cos of ram speeds

not many solid 990FX OCing reviews yet though

... so it's gonna be a shot in the dark

but you will be the first of the main crowd to go down that route, so write a review for us

I guess I can always mask off the board and paint the red to match mods lol.

its a good board no doubt and I like the color scheme but it has one drawback for me. It only has 6 sata ports. I need a min of 7 2 for my ssd raid 4 for my wd black raids and one for my optical drive

im thinkin on getting a chv at the end of august, but hopefully amd4 comes out soon after and i will get one of them or more news about bd. ive changed jobs so more moneys on toys

yeah I'm tossed on my ram selections

should I just get what I need for now or should I go forth and get a quad kit for AM4 decisions decisions lol

problem with us 'computer geeks' we want faster now not later, and we have all done it, bought something too soon and something miles better comes out a couple of weeks later.

or worst, gets reduced in price lol

Happens with most things not just computer equipment, hate having to keep putting off then committing only to be slapped across the face a week or two later when a better version or a price cut comes along.

Buyers remorse u_u

yeah theres always buyers remorse but I can deal with it. As I dont go latest and greatest anymore (kids stopped that) I dont get overly bummed by a purchase when something better comes along. I deal with what I have til I can change it lol look at my ssd choices lol better sata 3's came out not long after I bought those. But at the price I paid for them I'm totally happy with them.

Now back on subject I dl'd the software (free trial) I was wanting from the CHFV its the Daemon Tools and been playing with it. I'm guessing it doesnt like raided hdds to mount the stuff on as its giving me errors and a check of the error says its due to the hdd's being in a raid
sad.gif
well I say horse crap on that. I like my raids and not changing it to run some stupid software. So I guess I'll be sticking to an optical drive for certain games. And the Sabertooth is back in my head again lol.

i remember back in college when i first learnt about raid, the next day i was in scan buying 3 hdds with a raid motherboard, spending hours working out how to install the raid driver on a xp system (for some reason it did not work at first)

installing reinstalling windows checking the speed out.

then ssd came out was blown away but still if i buy them it will be 2 or 3 of them raid 0

i dont buy the ultra high end anymore i thought i can get 50% of the price with high range and overclock it to better than the ultra high, like ttl has shown in reviews some of the older chips like i5s can clock alot higher thant the i7s

ever since I learned about raid I have always used it I like it I love it I want some more of it!!!! lol in 15ish years using it I have never lost data or a drive in any of my raids. I know its a chance but hell I dont keep anything on it that I cant replace easily.

and I knew it wouldnt take long for someone to say a bad word on this thread

lmao you said i5 and i7 lmao

also things just took a turn for the better
