9800GX2 Official.

Seriously the normal 7950GX2 was awesome it just relied on SLI which has improved a bit it isn't that bad even then it was just quad sli that gave it a bad name. In terms of power consumption and heat output the 7950GX2 was a god.

Its basically 2x 8800GTS G92 however I expect it'll be down-clocked a lot and if its anything like GX2 it'll use about 150watts or so.

I think itll be an awesome card.

But IDK if it will beat the ATI card, which is 2 cores on one card which means they can cool it easier it likely uses less power and puts out less heat which means higher clocks etc and x-fire scales MUCH better then SLI in almost everything.

At least now with DX10 the frames rendered can be increased of 3 to 4 so now its possible to get a decent boost in performance at high res.

Guys just a thought you may say its not 9 series with 2x 8800's joined together but maybe you could if you could consider that its 2x G92's together.

I dont think anyone understands nvidias naming atm though..

9600GT is not looking good, it is only (almost) twice as good as the 8600gt according to this which still puts it below 8800GT performance!

I'm going to have to ignore this card and wait for the 9800GTX D9E... Something tells me it won't be out in Feb, prob March at this rate. They won't release the top dog if there is no competition.

Edit: Looks like I'll have to get the 9800GX2 as it would seem there will be no new architecture until mid-08! (As long as the price isn't too bad)... Some nvidia roadmap details here

Nothing wrong with a 9600GT being below performance of a 8800GT, they`re targeting different audiences.

Being almost 2x as good as an 8600GT is a good comparison, if this is correct.

Shouldn`t make comparisons of cards outside of their target areas imo.

Some interesting points, especially re. the nomenclature (g92 = 9 series...)

I emboldened part to point one thing out - xfire scales better but doesn't perform as well as sli, so the GX2 will still be better imo

Considering its sibling, the 7950 GX2 was named a 7 series, just before the 8 series appeared, so why this should suddenly jump up a series because its two 8800GTS's and some pritt-stick is odd indeed.

Maybe after the success of the 8800GTX they are hoping that anything with a 9 series badge will sell like hot cakes before they drop the true 9-series on us

Ahh you are right, however that is only because the single cards from nvidia are so much more powerful.

Thing is if nvidia say lose 1mhz clock speed, say the 40% boost from SLI it isnt 1mhz anymore its 1.4mhz potential. If they downlock a lot they wont just lose some performance they'll lose 140% of that from total performance.

If ATI manage to clock high enough and nvidia cannot, then the gap should close by quite a bit. Hopefully 55nm can make up for that.

Still all theory though.

I dont see why youd say this considering the dual chips on one PCB was worse than the GX2. This is going to be a flop. So, me waits with Tox for the 9800GTX.

Looking at the pictures, it looks like the pcb is quite a bit shorter in length than the cooler. By having airflow uninterupted by the presence of pcb as can be seen above, could this increase airflow significantly?

Looks great, but those things look HUGE.. dont think they will be fitting in many cases sept the big'uns. Hmm if the price isnt too bad.. might look into that.

How will it be a flop? Explain? If they make a good enough cooler they have 2x the room to put it in than the dual PCB card.

Looks damn nice though.

Voodoo 5 5500, Gainwards 6800GT, 7950GX2. All flops. Continuing the trend.

Voodoo 5 was good, but thats cause the 5 chip was so much better than the 4 chip.

What is all this D9E, D8E, D9M, D9P stuff about? Obviously Code names or somthing? i know the E = Enthusiast M = Midrange P = Performance, Correct? what about the D and the Number? Is the number like 9 for 9 Series and 8 for 8 Series?

Oh and why the hell as the card got HDMI? HD Video yes but 5.1 audio too? From a GPU??? Same with the Opticle out? Why is audio coming out of a Graphics Card!!!!!!!!!!

SO is this the big stepup we were hoping for?

Cant see me stepping up from my 8800gt with EVGA really - i cant see it working, just another flop/gimmick. Is there anything else to get excited about? I'm limited to about the 15th of Feb for my stepup :(

Well put it thsi way.

Would you consider SLI'ing your card?

If the answer is yes, then you cant really deny this card is good, because it is just SLI on a stick, if however you wouldn't even consider SLI then you probably wont like this card.

SLI support for games has been good lately though.
