Hi all,

has anyone tryed overclocking the 9800 gx2?

Im not sure whats up with it but when i overclock the memory or core it doesnt give me any improvment. Anyone had this problem, or know what the problem is?

thanks

rivatuner and ntunes.

just found this on the review

The overclock on the 9800 GX2 didn't seem to improve the 3DMark score very much which is a little strange, but it does show that the 9800 GX2 has a decent amount of headroom for Nvidia's partners to work with.

im increase the core by 100mhz and getting 200 points more on 3dmark. That could be a becasue windows didnt index.

Turn off indexing if that is what you mean by Index.

Maybe it just doesn't do anything, no need anyway.. pretty powerful already. ;)

just done some over clocking on it and not noticed any increase in performance. There seems to some bottleneck that I'm unaware off.

i hope kemp reads the forums, would like his input.

here is my chart enjoy

Would i be right in thinking then that a qx9650/790i/ddr3 combo would be better at getting the most out of the GX2 due to being able to run a higher fsb?

cant comment on the 790i but ddr3 and a qx9650 would be the ideal setup. The test shows that a higher CPU speed is more valuable than fsb.

eg same fsb 460 but different CPU speeds gain of 2000 points on 3d mark.

wish i had the money for ddr3 and that CPU.

Yep, defo cpu related from looking at the results. On the review there was comment on the fsb being one of the limiting factors from getting a decent overclock on the GX2. With the 790i, the QX9650 should be able to hit 500+ going by the 790i review. All in all, it looks like 790i/QX9650/DDR3/GX2 will be a winner. Just away to start a new build with this spec so i'm keeping a close eye on things. Planned ram is OCZ Platinum 4 GB PC3-12800 but other suggestions welcome!:)

I am gunna grab one of these awesome(ish) cards at the end of the week.

I shall have a go.. maybe lower your multiplier and up the FSB? :)

We've been playing with this card on a 780i board and the Q6600 and also ran into a few performance issues in both single and SLi.

Running quad SLI saw terrible performance really and although it may be bottlenecked somewhat, the drivers and scalability still need optimising we feel.

We're doing further benchmarking on it tomorrow so hope to bring you some charts and actual figures for Quad SLI, hopefully on a 790/Extreme setup.

meh......the card is new, surely the drivers will be better in a month or so,I know you shouldnt have to wait as you spent a big chunk, but thats just how it goes
