8800GT <15 FPS in F.E.A.R ?

Hey guys, been a while, and I've just bought a new system.

So I'll list my problem, then my rig.

Just installed everything in my new system, and I get an average of 8FPS... yes, E I G H T, on FEAR, running only at 1600 x 1200 with everything up full

My vital stats:

Intel Q6600 @ stock (not for long though)

Gainward 8800GT

2 x 1gb Corsair Dominator

Tagan 900W PSU

ABit IP-35 mobo

Vista Home Premium

Using latest drivers from Nvidia website, and FEAR automatically installs Directx9c. I have NOT yet installed the upgrade to FEAR that is available after install. I will do that later tonight but that speed is lamer than something that is really lame.

So, what I'm looking for are suggestions as to what to check... Kempez said that it should totally walk at even higher res's, but av. 8FPS nearly gave me a hernia reading that in test.

Did google it, but nothing obvious. I hear that there is a patch for the 8800 running in vista but I couldn't find it on Nvidia site.

The PSU is plugged in correctly everywhere it needs to be. Mobo and system installed as per instructions.

Cheers guys.

Alex

Things I can think of offhand:

Where are you getting the info from? In-game I assume it runs like a slideshow?

Have you tried running DXDIAG to see if DirectX has a problem?

Patch the game up and run FRAPS to see how you get on. I'll be around tonight on MSN mate

Top man mate :wavey:, thanks!

dxdiag shows no problems, but didn't mention DX9c, just DX10... maybe C didn't install afterall??

I have just re-installed it from the redist and I'm dl'ing the massive patch up to 1.08... will let you know how I get on bud

since u have vista/dx10 card, the dx10 is going to be installed

that shouldnt cause the problem and dont no why u want to go to 9.0c

the game doesnt even use DX10 so it shouldnt matter

try running w/o volumetric lights and soft shadows, and disable AA and try it out that way. see which one of thosekills ur FPS

Thanks for the suggestions.

Right, installing Directx9c actually made the 'test' get an average of 59FPS, at 1600x1200... no option for the full 1920 x 'whatever' res even though the screen is at its native for 24" screen.

BUT, when I played the game, I got some SHOCKING speeds, like below 1FPS!

Hmmm, still downloading the patch, and will put FRAPS on too...

Thanks again

Cheers bud. I will give those a shot as well... It was weird, litterally the test ingame showed a max of 149 FPS, and minimum was 26, averaging 59, but the game was sketchy as hell... I thought it started to load a new section, but then just realised it was choppy FPS and I mean REAL choppy... I'll have the install this evening of the update so will try again and let you know :)

Cheers Kempy, it was the update you sent me that fixed it. The DX9 and DX10 hotfix for Vista from MS...

Nice one mate!
