8700k Vs 2700x

Unfortunately I have ran into some computer troubles and it has made me think of upgrading my system I'm currently running 3930k processor on a ASUS rampage Extreme 4 I was looking to know your opinion of which one would be the better upgrade an 8700k or a 2700x to be honest I do do a little rendering work and photo editing but that would only take up about 20% of the workload that the computer will be doing it will be 80% about gaming I'm hoping that we can get some insight on which processor might be better for me

Depends if you care about money. The Ryzen 2700 (you don't need the X model it's a waste of money) can be had for about £280. The 8700k is nearly £400, meaning you could buy a board and CPU for just the cost of the 8700k.

Also, both would be a nice healthy upgrade from the 3930k, so if you were doing OK with that either would be great.

Now what you may want to consider is the 1700.

It can now be had for about £180, meaning for the £400 you would have spent on just a CPU you could get a board CPU and ram. Again, nice sizeable upgrade, akin to moving from what you have now to a 5960x.
 
Thank you very much for your suggestions and they're most welcome I will definitely look into this 1700 and the 1700x yes I do care a lot about money and it will be a m-atx or itx it build this time so motherboard choices matter a lot also I have not been keeping track off the CPU market and have little to no knowledge of what is good what is bad and what is ugly and like always I really appreciate your input and any other suggestions you might have :)
 
Like I said the 1700 and 1700x are pretty much the same, and have about the same IPC and clock speed of a 5960x which would have been a nice upgrade from Sandy any way.

Believe it or not the CPU market is actually about as boring as a slice of mouldy bread and you really don't need to go crazy.

There are some decent Ryzen MATX boards. MSI did a nice Arctic one. If you want full ATX go with the B350 Strix.
