800 quid to spend - help

Hi Everyone,

can you please provide advice, i got about 800 quid to spend on upgrading my graphics cards. I live in the middle east and the choice is not that great. I could ship from the UK or states but shipping NS DELIVERY TIME IS A PAIN.

Anyway, i run 2 x hd 6950 with a oc 2500k @4.6 Ghz on a 5760 x 1080 set up what cards would you recommend :

GTX 690
2 x hd 7970 if so what brands

2 x gtx 680

your thoughts would be appreciated.

a 690 and 2 680s are either at or over the 800 pound mark. i would say get 2 7970s and overclock them. they are a lot cheaper than the 680s as well.

Go for 2x7970.
Are you planning to watercool them in feature?If yes, just go for reference ones, if not go for msi lighting or asus dcii.
BTW for msi and asus cards you can get waterblocks as well, so its up to you.

I can buy a GTX 690 for 780 pound locally, of 2 x gtx 680 MSI twin frozer for the same price.


Yes I will be looking to water cool, but later along with a motherboard and cpu upgrade.

I can also get SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6GB Vapor-X Edition 6gb for 433 pounds each which will be within budget, does anyone know if you can get water blocks for these??

No I really don't think so that EK will make water block for it.

resolution 5760 x 1080 / 6024 x 1080 bezel corrected.

please bear in mind that i will be looking to water cool these cards later, once i decide on how im gonna water cool my cosmos 2.

For info im playing the following on 3 screens:

assassins creed revelations at 45- 55 fps high
BF3 35 -45 fps medium to high
Max Payne 3 30 - 40 fps high
farcry 3 20 -30fps medium, settings
borderlands 2 30 - 40 fps high settings
hitman absolution 20 -30.

what sort of increases in fps can i expect upgrading from 2 x hd7950 o/c????
