Hi,

I have a qx9770 overclcoked to 4ghz with a evga 790 ultra mainboard and 2 gtx 280's in SLI with 4gb ddr3 dominators.

Problem Is my PC wont sleep in vista 64bit if I press sleep the screen goes off and more often than not the HDD light stays on and just sits there witgh fans spinnig, the PC Freezes an will not wake unless I hold the off switch and restart the machine.

P.s have katest P07 Bios, Sleep has never worked on all BIOS versions:(

Have you got the standby mode in S3? Also bear in mind the 790i hates memory esoecually if it is being overclocked i.e. 1600 or above. The not sleeping bit might be the standby setting being wrong.

What is wrong with just switching off, the QX9770 and fast hard disk setup have you running in under a minute anyway.

Yes it does soon boot, have tried S1 and S3 neither work??? memory is at stock rated 1800mhz 1.8v stock timings however fsb is overclcoked

Try clocking the memory down (i.e. not overclocking it from the boards point of view) at 1333MHz. The fSB shouldn't need OCing as you have an unlocked multiplier so just bump that to 10, FSB at 400.

The board isn't the most stable in the world so overclocking (esp. memory) causes instability/random crashes.

I have an asus s2e, with beat bios 1103, look for another beta bios.

Other than that, run mem test, update chipset drivers and try S1, S3 and both again for good measure. Sorry I can't help much, I never use sleep as it takes as long shut dwon reboot as to sleep/wakeup

ok will try that, another question off topic I know but say if I run my fsb at 1600mhz and my memory at 1800mhz will I be effectivley not benefiting as much as say if my fsb was at 1800mhz???

Thats correct, although you'd be extremely pushed to notice the difference..

Why not just shut down?

It isn't your hardware, I can't put mine to sleep either.. just turns off and back on again, it is a useless function that doesn't work .. yet again pointless by MS for putting it in.

With that set up.. just turn it off.. it wouldn't take long to start up, or are you on of them lazy people who can't be bothered to push a button?
