7900 -> 8800GTS? Help Please :)

I'm thinking of selling my 2x7900GTs in the future & buying an 8800GTS 640 when the price drops. is it worth it because my CPU could be a bottleneck... i hear these new dx10 cards demand a fast cpu and unlike a year ago when i bought it, it may not still cut the cheese :wiggle:

and would i need to upgrade my PSU? (mobo is fine im sure)

If its any help I replaced my 7900gt with a 8800gts and there was a fairly big improvement. System specs

Intel 905 oc'ed @ 3.5 ghz

2x512mb dual channel

asus p5wd2-e

The only thing I would say is that of the three games I've played since upgrading two have been messed up. BF2142 has serious problems, something to do with the lighting, and stalker was a bit tricky to smooth out, till the patch anyway. Never had any bother with the 7900.

Personally I wouldn`t see the cpu as a major problem.

I`d also be extremely upset if my psu could handle 2x7900 and not 1x8800.

530W should suffice but be prepared to upgrade if any instability arises. An FX60 will not cause a bottleneck with an 8800 so don't worry there.

Bare in mind however that as mentioned there has been teething problems with the DX10 cards so think carefully.

thx for the advice everyone, i may think twice about going for an 8800, maybe nvidia's next release will offer something more stable?

Personally there's a lot more hassle with SLI than there is with an 8800. Not had any problems apart from STALKER which is the buggiest game in the world anyway

I wouldn`t consider the 8800 as a particularly unstable card.

It`s increase in sales may co-incide with the release of the likes of Vista, and combining drivers issues and so forth may flood the `net with traffic that might indicate that the source of the problem is the card. I would extremely doubt it.

As Kemp says, and he`s got a wealth of gaming stuffs, to be outlining 1 game as an issue that sticks in his mind is a great commendation.

Drivers are getting better all the time too
