Hello guys,

Can anyone help me out? I built my first pc a while ago and now am looking to upgrade my Video card.I currently run a Radeon 7850 2Gb, and am looking to upgrade maybe £200 worth tops.

I game in 1080 1920/1080 and have a i5 2500k with a 650w psu..

I want to stay with AMD and am looking for the card to be better than what i have and last till i can upgrade mobo/cpu in the future...

many thanks in advance!

Hi, yes that's one of the ones i have reading up on... just had an email from overclockers and all the prices seemed to have dropped 40/50 quid on a lot of cards in the past 10 days.

Is there some new ones coming or is the r9 285's it ?

The R9 280x is at a good price at the moment and peforms better than the R9285 but I am going to wait as there are rumors of an R9285x coming out soon :)

R9 285: new features, new architecture, and performs great for the price.

Its not new. Its a revision. Its pretty much a cut down Hawaii core but then tweaked further so it falls more in line with a 280x/280 but it still gains more ACE(4x the amount) which is really the key difference. The other features are trueaudio, freesync,XDMA, and that stuff which is new.

The performance is near exact but depending on the game the 280 will beat a 285. Give it time and the 285 drivers will improve. I personally would get the 285. It does run slightly cooler and more quiet thanks to the much improved thermals. Price is near identical. Mine as well get it.

Then again if both sides are starting to release the next cards it would be safe to wait till near Xmas when they all go on sale.

Me personally would buy what you can afford now, otherwise, you'll be waiting for this card, then you'll be waiting for that card, there is always something new on the horizon.

As far as current gen cards go, I'd say the R9 290 is, as already mentioned the best bang for the buck, and starting at about £260, it's a billy bargain

Hi, yeah cheers guys.. always stick to just one card and get the best i can get,, looks very like ill get the extra sorted for a 4Gb 290 - which should be the best at the minute... apart from spending silly money!

thanks :)

I can recommend the XFX R9 290 DD, I went with a pair after seeing Tom's review, they are so quiet, I don't think I've heard a quieter graphics card to be honest.
