I got a bonus at work, so I'm basically needing to get a new gpu. Reason being is because I sold my 7950 for $140 then I paid for it, to a miner.. So i have profit+bonus and I want the sickest card.. But just don't know if the price will drop by Christmas or January.
I was just hoping someone could stop me spending $800cad on a video card.... :/
Lol true that... So how come I see high benchmarks on 2 690s that pass the 780s? Why don't I just do that, or am I missing out on shaders?
Fine you don't have to yell![]()
Which... 3-piece, or track?![]()
So basically the price of the 780ti is very reasonable price because it beats the titan and is close to the 7990 which is $1000 card.. If I ever wanted to sli it be a beast in the future later on... So i can't find not many reasons to get it.
290x is just as fast as a 780ti people... Sorry but for the most part it is true. Sure it beats in some games but not every game like many are saying. From various online reviews the differences are small and spending the extra $100-$130 on a 780ti isn't worth it. Plus the 3rd party coolers are soon to be released and will make a difference. It was said earlier that only temps will be lower.. Um that also means clocks can be higher? Noise will be lower too(as always).
Now i am prepared to get bagged on but I can't justify many people degrading the 290x compared to a 780ti. No disrespect to Tom on his opinion, he did after all due all his testing and got the results, but i can't agree with all of them; hence my opposite position(no I am not accusing him of anything, just to be clear). In the end either card is superb but the money factor in play sways me over to the 290x.

The OC version blows it out of the water, with less heat, less wattage, quieter, with extra features... I can only expect fans will cool down the 290x by 10 degrees celsius, then the slightest overclock will fly over that because it's so damn hot!! 290x is already near the maximum threshold that a chip should handle, I don't see much headroom.
I agree, the difference isn't going to be noticeable unless you dial your resolution all the way up to 4k or something, as a result the regular 290 or 780 are better buys for more sane resolutions.290x is just as fast as a 780ti people... You may be right, but I can't find any 1080p benchmarks to see resultsI agree, the difference isn't going to be noticeable unless you dial your resolution all the way up to 4k or something, as a result the regular 290 or 780 are better buys for more sane resolutions.
Heck, if it's only 1080p we're talking about, you're probably not going to notice a difference between the 290X/780Ti and the GTX 770/R9-280X, aside from price that is. I want a R9-290X/290, but if I'm honest my 7950 has plenty life left in it yet.
This is the problem with a lot of hardware out there where diminishing returns kick in, you won't notice the difference in a lot of cases. Countless examples out there, like the i5 vs i7, premium SSDs vs more basic ones etc.
But hey what do I know? I have a hard time (read: I don't) noticing a difference in Games (even Skyrim) between my FX-8350 and my friends i7-2600k with both at stock despite Tech site after Tech site saying the former is a "Crap" gaming CPU, and never recommending it. ^_^
