780 Ti Kingpin or Titan Black SC

Wow...

I didn't expect to see so much disrespect on these forums. Really? Disappointed.

I didn't buy the Kingpin. I got a 780 Ti Dual Classified very cheap, and following RMA problems, EVGA upgraded me to the Kinhpin for free as a good will gesture. I wasn't going to say no to a FREE upgrade now was I? Not really "faceplam" worthy is it.

People on the internet being judgemental is ridiculous.

A titan black is worth more than a kingpin 780ti.
A free upgrade to a titan black would mean he got a Titan black for less if he traded it in.

Yeah no shit sherlock :p *jokes*

Just don't see the point in should of would of could of is all.

Disrespect ? What the hell are you talking about ?

You never once told us that it was an RMA upgrade hence the confusion of getting an LN2 card and not doing LN2 on it, Had you actually mentioned that this would of played out completely differently, but you didn't.

Drop the "disrespect" crap please bud, this is not a gang banger hood ;)

And I'm not being "judgmental" more confused as getting an LN2 card which costs a butt ton more than a reference card and performs about the same makes no sense to me but seeing as you didn't mention the free upgrade that changed things completely.

OP the Titan BE is slightly slower than the Kingpin 780ti not that you would notice in a game though. If it was me I would go for the swap and grab the Titan BE.

Don't expect Watchdogs to run that well on a single Titan though, I maxed the game out on 4 Titans and got about 65fps @1600p. This is because the game is really badly written as it was giving low fps despite having fantastic SLI scaling (about 95%+). It is also rubbish on my 290Xs so it is not an NVidia thing.

For future proofing you are going to need at least 2 and probably 3 Titan Blacks before you can start using the extra VRAM the cards have.

The Kingpin 780ti is great for benching but not much use for gaming compared to cheaper alternatives.

You should have said that in the first place as there is a bit of history with the whole Kingpin card and a forum member. Not everyone knows who upgraded to what and how they got it. GG for getting a more expensive card for less.

The Kingpin isn't liked at all around here. Unless its used for its actual purpose. This forum can be alot harsher than what you've received as well.

Don't worry about it, just ignore the less helpful posts.

This is nothing, you should have seen the comments when I asked about buying a Titan for use with a 4770k. It was a good job I did not mention I had 4 already.:D:cool:

You shouldn't make judgements on your own assumptions. I made this thread to ask about a comparison between two GPU's. I did not ask for a discussion about whether getting the Kingpin was a good buy or not.

And I feel disrespected, but because you disagree I should drop it?

I take it, the 4770K + Titan combo is not liked on the forums then?

Drop the disrespect crap please bud this is not the school yard or the hood.

And making assumptions is all one can do if the op i.e you, Doesn't give all the information straight off the bat ;)

Information is a 2 way street and you only gave us a traffic cone :p *jokes BTW*

They like the 4770k but if you mention the word Titan some of the members get a little excited and post all sorts of rubbish.:D

I love cards of all shapes and sizes but not ones which are meant to be used with LN2 and never are, Perform the same as a reference on air and cost a testicle and your first born :p

This is one of the main reasons I sent my Matrix card back, It was wasted on air, Performed no better than a reference card and cost a lot more.

What is not liked is wasting money on stuff that isn't used properly.
TBH an i7 for a gaming machine isn't 100% liked by everyone.

That kinda thing is ridiculous though! It's you machine and you can put what you want in it! It's not like we're wasting other peoples money haha.

I have an i7 for my gaming PC. I also encode lots of video and the i7 does it in a quarter of the time an i5 did.

Yeah, from a value perspective it is a no-brainer, but performance wise 780 Ti is, with current games, a better option. Even at 4k.

But I haven't looked into Titan Black's overclockability.

Your completely missing the point bud.

If we would of known that you got a free upgrade we wouldn't of assumed anything but we didn't know that.

Think of it from a neutral point of view, Your going to buy an item that performs no better than a reference card on air, Costs nearly 40% more and all of the features that are built into the item which is were the extra money is going will never be used hence the confusion when someone says they are getting or have got a card like this.

Hope that clears it up.

What I find interesting and amusing is anyone who bought some Titans when they came out 18 months ago got all sorts of abuse and ridicule about value.

18 months on I have got a nice 4K monitor and my old Titans make my 290Xs look silly where the AMD cards run out of VRAM all the time. Mantle is an absolute no go @4K and even non Mantle games have problems running out of VRAM, my Titans on the other hand with their 6gb VRAM just run everything with ease, even 4 way SLI works better than Quadfire @4K.

18 months solid use out of the Titans and they are still the best option for 4K, now that's what I call value for money.

Because using an i7 for alot of video encoding actually makes sense :P. My new pc has an i7 because although I game quite a bit I actually need the extra grunt and make use of it.
Its usually when people are like "Ok I have x amount of money for a gaming pc". They then choose an i7 with a GTX 760. If they went for an i5/8350 they could get a waaay more powerful GPU, that would benefit gaming much more.
Its not so much people wasting their own money, as it is asking for advice.

Surely you could get the new 8gb Sapphire 290xs. They're cheaper as well ;).

The Titan issue most people had at the time (and still mostly have) is you're not paying the extra for tonnes more performance. Not that many people have a 4k monitor anyway. There are better options nowadays especially.

Kaap do you by any chance have a GPU gallery ? I think it would be cool if you had a few pics of all your cards lined up side by side in 1 big pic :)

The 780ti Kingpin actually performs better than normal 780ti's including the Classified on Air, Water or LN2. The point is if you are going to use it just for gaming it is a bit of a waste.

Having seen my 4gb cards run out of VRAM @4K plenty of times, I think a 3gb 780ti is a non starter using high settings. If you are not going to use high settings @4K you can save your self some money and stick with 1080p or 1440p.

No the Sapphire 8gb cards are totally useless for 4 way quadfire. No waterblocks are available and the air cooler is too wide to allow you to run more than 2 iirc. One of the guys on the other forum I use has this problem at the moment.

I don't think the above situation is going to change as Sapphire only made 250 units and OCUK snapped up the lot.

+1. The lack of information sparked the arguments. Hopefully we've moved past all that now and are back on topic.
