775 Watercooling setup

As above just got hold of a QX9650 and have fancied trying out WC for a while and figured to really get the best from the chip then WC is the way to go. Problem is budget! WC seems very expensive and tbh i have no bloody idea what i'm looking at. At the momment i'm running a pretty decent air cooler so would be looking for a decent improvemnet but i know this will come at a price. At the momment i am only thinking about the chip and then take it from there. I would rather try a pick some used bits from here and other places then new as then i would more than likley get higher spec gear.

Below is my setup, is the case suitable for a WC setup?

Silverstone TJ09

QX9650

4870X2 - Accelero Extreme cooler

P5Q Pro

4GB Patriot Viper 1066MHz

Tagan BZ800

Prolimatech Megahalems

Don't know how much difference watercooling the GPU would make as i already get superb temps with the cooler.

I have looked at kits but i presume they are really not much better than a decent air cooler?. So just looking to get the chip done first so any help appreciated as i have no idea what i'm looking at. Is there anything else i should think about doing or just the chip for starts?

Start with just the chip, as this is where the most benefit lies. The 775 QXs can be clocked massively, they are quite hot. I would recommend the following:

DDC Ultra 18W Pump £58

XSPC Res top (combines resevoir for bleeding air out and pump top) £20

Delta V3 Block (or swiftech Apogee, I'll leave the discussion of the best value block for the others) £35-55

A thick 240mm rad (I like thermochill ones, but XSPC ones are reasonably decent. Fesers are overpriced. £55+

Two decent air flow fans (Yate Loons are good value, Scythe Gentle Typhoons are pretty nice (quiet) but pricey, noctua are pretty much silent but really expensive). £5x2 --> £17 x2

Tom recommends 7/16 id tubing with 1/2id barbs, and no hose clips, using hot water to stretch the hose over the barbs. I regularly take my loop apart, so 1/2"ID tubing and 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD compression fittings are best. Cheaper option is wormdrive clips and barbs.

Best tubing is Tygon, but most tubing will do.

Water cooling kits are generally rubbish, only equal to good air cooling, so you won't see any real advantage. With a good WC kit, you will be looking at load temps of maybe 35C depending on ambient temp.

WCing the GPU will need a much bigger rad (360 minimum), another block (£70+) and if you're happy with the temps I'd leave it. It also mean there's no need to drain the loop if the graphics chip goes stupid.

WCing is something that needs money and time to be spent on it, rushing in will result in a soggy, broken computer.

I'm not familiar with the case, but it has two 120 mounts in the roof. You may need to mod it slightly, but see what anyone else says.

if its the tj09 with like the gills on the side

then you might fit a dual or a triple in the roof or ither in he front fella
