Ok, who ever thought up there's

ing twist and click things needs too be hung, drawn, quartered and then have each quarter shot a few times. They couldn't have made them more of a pita if they bloody tried.

I've lost skin to these. And they bend mobs somthing cronic. what happened to the good old days of retention brackets? 478 had it, 754 and 939 shared one, hell even AM2 uses one.

So WHY intel, use such an utterly

Ham out.

Seconded. Every time I install a cooler on my mobo it feels like its going to break...but then maybe that's what manufacturers want...

Glad to see I'm not alone here. Be nice if a cooling company could come up with some sort or solution to this. But one where you done need to move the mobo to change the sink.

I guess were back to brackets then though.

I hate it too. Not least cause my nice Scythe Infinity has broken a pin as they're so delicate

The intel mounting system sucks, time for a redesign...though it aint gonna happen

I agree they are truely awful mounts. AMD 939 ftw. Incredible idea..

Linky

In the linky above.. a pretty intensive mod for the cooler mounting. Looks like a lot of effort to be honest.

I think the push pins are ideal for small heatsinks, water blocks, intel stock coolers etc.. Shame they suck for anything bigger. And suck bad!

Cheers!

Doesn't bother me too much on my main rig.. it is my second rig that kills me. :(

I hate the cheap plastic which is used to hook to the motherboard... when I first came across them a few years ago.. I was like WHAT THE FOOK?

Very weird design.

If I was loaded I would have every motherboard i've ever attempted to mount the intel HSF to embedded in my wall.

Those things are designed not to damage your board, but to cleverly enrage you to the point that you break out of anger and void the warrenty

Agreed on all counts. Intel's twist-lock retention system sux a big fat hairy one, and I'd like to see more aftermarket cooling companies adopting alternative ways of installing their heatsinks. Simply using the twist-lock system is lazy imo.

Noctua NH-U12P ftw tbh :D

Does the bit that screws into the bracket on that remind anyone else of 939?

Shame we you need to take out the mobo to change the back plate

I don't think it's as bad as the old socket7 mountings, had loads of people put a screwdriver thru the top layer of the mobo just from fitting the hsf.

Also had a lot of mobo's where the plastic clips snapped off.
