hi I my currentl running a 260 gtx overclocked to 700/1200 which has done me fine and plays bf3 well enough for me on medium 1080p. I have the opportunity to get a zotac 580 amp for £160 but if I wait till end of month I could save enough to get a 760 2gb. I plan on getting bf4 before xmas and I tried the beta and it was terrible at 20/25fps what I don't know is if the release version plays any better don't want to buy it and find its unplayable till I upgrade. specs below, unfortunately with a baby on the way the total system overhaul I was planning will have to wait till next xmas. thanks in advance.

Q6700 @ 3.4ghz
4gb ballistix tracer red @ 1000mhz 5/5/5/15
Palit GeForce GTX 260 Sonic 216 SP 896mb @ 700/1200
xfx Nforce 780i
Antec Quattro 850w

The 760 if it's for BF4 since it's recommended it needs 3GB.

For me the full version runs better than the Beta, although the Beta was fine. I don't know how well it will do on a 760 though since my card has the 3GB.

3GB vram will be the better investment, so the 760 will perform better than the 580, but if you go Radeon, you can pick up a 7950 which is 3GB for around the same price of a 760...plus the 79xx series have the radeon reward system :D

The 760 has 2GB VRAM, not 3. But it's still a better bet than the 580 1.5GB. Is there any chance you could afford a second 580?

Reason I ask is SuB on these forums runs two in SLi and he gets HIGH fps from them in BF4, the rest of his rig is pretty good though too. I can't remember what the RAM specs are for BF4. O.o

I basically have £160 in my bank spare ive been saving up for a while to get a gpu. By the end of the month ill have £200. My friend has just upgraded to a 780ti and said I could have the 580 for £160 I might be able to knock him down £10 or just wait till I got the £200 and get a 760, AMD cards are out of the question for me.

If you've got £200 get a 7950, or for a bit more a 7970, 3GB VRAM. I've just looked and 7970's are going out of stock now...damn I was looking at a second one!

Fail moment by me....... about the 760 being a 2gb. lol oh well

GTX 580 1.5gb for £160.......?

Thats not a very nice friend you got there, he scamming you big time.
a very quick search on ebay shows a 'used' (which your friends card would also be) 580 1.5gb for £125 Delivered....

Any specific reason for not AMD ?

I think that SuB's 580's are the 3gb versions mate.

yeah that's what I thought when I checked :( might be able to get him down a bit least I can see its working and know the history of it I don't mind paying a little more for that. this money is itching to be spent but I think ill be better of waiting and get the 760 it will be hard but think ill manage it. NVidia is just my personal preference, I had a 5870 for a while and its definatly a better experience with a NVidia with drivers and stuff this is just my preference and opinion.

Yeah hold up mine are 3GB versions! (and I paid through the nose for the privilege)

The 1.5GB version won't be enough for BF4 dude.

Running 1.5GB 580's in SLi will give you great grunt, but no where near enough frame buffer for BF4 on decent settings.

Ideally you need 2.5GB + (so a 3GB nVidia card). But a 2GB 760 will run it fine, I know a couple of people with those who are happy enough.

The game's video memory usage runs around 2.4gb~2.7gb when at full tilt (that is, all settings maxxed).

Edit: £160 for a 1.5gb 580 on air is a bit steep.

thanks for the help guys im going to save up and get a 760 should I get the 4gb then now, im confused because reviews have been saying the 4gb cards had no benefits at 1080p

There's a benefit if you want to run v-high Anti Aliasing settings (which is effectively the card rendering the picture at x times higher resolution and downsampling it) so more vram always helps here.

Bf4 will happily sit at around 2.8GB VRam at normal rendering size (as in not running 120% render size in-game) at 1920x1200p (yes, not 1080p) with all settings to the max and 4xMSAA.

If there is a 4GB version, I'd personally get that over 2GB. Purely for future proofing if you don't buy regularly enough to upgrade more often. Plus, more is almost always better than less :P
