hi i just recivied my Sabterttoh x58 back from rma and they sent me out a new board however i am getting a ram problem where as in windows it detects only 4gb out of the 6gb installed however in cpuz it says iam running 6gb in tipple channel mode i have tried switching the ram sticks around and the same thing happens however when i put the middle ram stick in the last dim windows dectects the full 6gb therefore iam thinking that the 2 middle dimm slots are faulty

i just wanted to know if there is any other method of testing to see if the dimm slots are at fault before i send off for rma for a 2nd time in a month

Thanks

In the start menu type msconfig (assuming you are using Windows 7) press return to run it then choose the boot tab then click Advanced Options, you will see a box that says Maximum Memory check the box then change it to 6.

When you have done that restart and it should fix your problem.

If it doesnt work check your cpu cooler mount and make sure you have no crap on the cpu contact points themselves. Can be a socket/pin dirty or bent issue.

I had this issue with a flamming blade gti board, it turned out too be a bend ping, was just a matter of raising the pin and worked perfect afterwards.

so i have been playing around with the cpu cooler which is a thermalright venomous x and it does seem that the cooler was on to tight as now i have loosened it and now windows shows the full 6 gb of ram however now when i put my pc in the upright postion windows detects 4gb and when i lay my pc on its side/back it detects 6gb so iam thinking i should mount my cpu cooler so that the fans face to the bootom of the case (faceing my gpu) to see if that works

Thanks

When you remove the cooler check too see if any of the pins near the top right hand corner are pushed down more than the others. If they are you can raise them ever so slightly with a small tweezers and should sort the problem.

I have the same problem with my build also a sabertooth x58 Mobo. No pins bent. not tightened cooler and no weight on it what so ever because its the H70 cooler. When i cold start my PC it shows 2 gigs @ post. Turn it off, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on and it shows all 6 gigs...

I have the G15 Logitech keyboard and there is a performance monitor which shows the CPU and RAM usage and when all 6 gigs are working I notice the ram usage at idle is 28% and if i leave my pc on for about 4 days straight let say (with out rebooting or turning off)... Ram usage at idle is 83%... It's soo weird! if i reboot it everything is fine again and will show all 6 gigs immediately.

So on cold starts 2 gigs show and when all 6 gigs start to show on post... couple days down the road with the PC on its back 2 gigs....

Tried EVERYTHING in the book from changing settings in BIOS to literately starting my computer without a heaksink (joke) and cant get it resolved.

This happened too me again with my new board evga but this time it was just the cooler (standard) was on too tight. I refit it and worked perfect. My issue with this one was on cold boot would show 4gb if I restart it i would get all 6gb and after a while would still show 6gb but slow down. Since refitting the cooler has worked perfectly. Btw I hate having the pins on the motherboard rather than cpu, its a pain in my back side.

Agreed!

I guess I'd have to try maybe tightening the top screws more than the bottom or vise virsa on the CPU heatsink.... '

My last option really... :S

I've heard of this issue as well, and I remember hearing about Sabertooths that if the motherboard is bent ever so slightly that can happen. So yeah, it might be that the CPU cooler is too tight or something similar. I've heard that loosening it just a bit or making sure there is no pressure around that area helps and that using the second set of slots (light instead of dark) is best, in case you haven't done that, though I suspect you have.

yup they are in the lighter color slots for sure... but just for Sh*ts and giggles... I took out my rams and installed them in the DARK slots and guess what happened.... MY PC DIDN'T EVEN POST!... pressed memOK! and nothing happened....soo i took out the rams and just inserted 1 stick in a DARK slot and still didnt post.... try each ram stick in every Dark slot and nothing...tried 1 stick in a lighter slot and it posted.... Hmmmm soo out of my 6 DIMM Slots only 3 work.... Starting to smell like an RMA to me...

DIMM_A2, B2, B2 - (These are Darker slots) - Dont work

DIMM_A1, B1, C1 - (Lighter color slots) - All Work

for that last case.... RTFM

it's clearly in there that you've just found the way it's intended to work

check out 2-10.

also, have you tried reseating the CPU itself?

Yup i did. When i took out my CPU to check the pins as well.

I checked out paged 2-10 in the manual... thanks for the heads up honestly i had no idea it worked like that.
