6970 max safe temps ?

still waiting on ebuyer getting back to me , the within 48 hour's is nearly up

you could phone ebuyer. i've had alot of stuff replaced with them, they don't need a massive reason to accept something for replacement. i phoned them. they are helpful and will organise a courrier at their cost to collect the faulty item and once they check it(they say they check stuff, some of my returns were for reasons that could take a squad of engineers 24hrs to proove the fault) they send you the replacement at their cost. or get a refund, or change the order. they do it over the phone in 1 call that'll be around 5 minutes. i think their phone service is 10p per minute

I ordered a new product and they sent an ex-display model, they said it was an accident and offered a discount. don't accept the offer because ex-display stuff has not got the 1 year ebuyer warranty

tried to phone them yesterday , it said i was in postion 6 and then cut me off . tried 5 times hence i sent the enote instead

ok. mostly the phone service idea works, but, sometimes i've been in que for over 10 minutes so i tell them a little about the damage it has caused etc

it happened with scan too

Wait for ebuyer to get back to you, if not speak to them

got a reply they have passed my questions to the tech team so more waiting

, below is a pic of hardware monitor after 4 mins of avp so look at the peak temps

Have you tried manually setting the fan speed in the ATI catylist control centre, say to 50, or a number that not too noisy then playing the game and seeing what temps you get

ok. i dunno enough about 6970 temps to give you sound advice. 6970 has tesselation engine, that can make alot of heat. my 480 is a tesselation thing and it's usually around 85-91 degrees. 5870 doesn't have amd's new tesselation engine. 480 has a big heatsink and your 6970 has a vapour heatsink that'll take more heat away in theory. TinyTom, OC3D's guy reviewed the 6970/6950, compared them to the 580/570 wich also have vapour heatsinks. Tom found the AMD's fans spinning alot faster than Nvidia's and maby had higher temps. Reasons are Nvidia has refined the technology and maby the coolers are not giving equal performance

those 480 temps aren't for AvP, all i know is they are quiet with AvP

idle temps only drop to 35.8c at 50% fan speed from 40c at auto (24%) , temps get to 80c at 50% after 2 min of avp or dirt2 and the dog starts moaning cause of the noise lol . surely amd could have done a better job with the cooling of the 6970 ? , no expert myself but amd are

BLIMEY that CPU runs cool

i mean the 480 runs quietly with 2 in SLI, I did run AvP when I had just 1 480, i don't remember the stats

example of tech support: usualy i research when i wana do some PC building. Sometimes I get a good idea and learn things as I try, then I phone Ebuyer or SCAN or summin, ask a question about summin and they give me the wrong answer

it was defying what i read in reviews and learn't and they tried selling me summin i didn't need. saying i had to get a new OS and stuff. etc. crafty/stupid. I pointed out that i'd already tried that and it worked, lol.

BLIMEY that CPU runs cool

using the coolit eco with a push-pull setup with the akasa venom 120mm fans , in prime95 x64 it peaks at 52c but in gaming it gets 42-47c depending on room temp . with my cpu running so cool surely my airflow is ok , which makes me wonder why the 6970 runs so hot

awesome.

wonder why ye I agree. the renowned heater called the 480 can drop to 74 degrees when i crank up the case fans, in-game BFBC2 everything blazing in 3D setting etc

just tried farcry2 max af & aa and temps were 77-83c depending if in combat/location , yet it did not feel smooth yet the fps were 55 - 140+ .

heat seems to increase when playing dx11 games , still got to try the temps in metro 2033

edit : just tried metro2033 and it hits 91c before the fan ramps upto 54% then it drops to 88c , then only now and then goes above 88c but it does reach 91c + in the fight sections in dx11 with DoF turned off

Because your not satisfied with the product ebuyer might do a refund, exchange or swap. You'd love an NVIDIA GTX 570 and it's good in SLI, giving you a good upgrade option.

Try Farcry 2 with V Sync ON. That'd give you another idea on the cards performance. With 1 480, a stock i5 750 and V Sync on the game ran 99% perfect. the problem it had was when looking at vast jungle and turning quickly it stuttered a little, it doesn't when V Sync is OFF. V Sync gives a proper timed frame production syncronised with the monitors frequency. It should be lovely

got the below reply just now

I will raise a RMA for the product so you do not go over your 7 days. As

you have explained the board is running at a high temperature and I will

add that to the description of a fault that you have described. I apologise

for any inconvenience or annoyance caused.

got to ring them to get things moving , also got the rma number so i will put my 5870's back in while it is sorted . good job i did not sell them lol

edit : rma accepted and collection is monday , anybody know how fast ebuyer is at rma fault checking and returning ?

one thing i did notice when reboxing the 6970 was it was not straight , it had a slight curve on the pcb which makes me think that the heatsink was not seated correctly and causing the high temps . surely powercolor would have noticed it when it was made ?
