6970 max safe temps ?

wow that long
sad.gif
, will be ok though as my 5870 will tide me over for the time being

Yer not trying to be anti AMD/ATI but this 6000 series seen alot problems hardware wise on forums and stuff just makes me wonder

will try for a refund tbh , although the gave me nearly the same framerate in fc2 as my crossfired 5870's used to

Yer they did release some better drivers for the 5000 series cards. But I was a massive fan of the 5000 series with the exception of the 5830. Though sure gtx 580 sli you see a change but no many people can afford that.

thought i would inspect the card before it was collected for rma , i thought the pcb had a curve but it was the back plate that was loose . every screw was loose and i thought why not replace the TIM while i was at it , i know that it voids the warranty but before it reached upto 99c in avp after 4 min . but now it it only reached 88.5 after 15 min of avp with a max fan speed of 38% (temps below) , i have now canceled the rma but expect to have to pay for the collection which is no longer needed . qc seems to be slipping at powercolor

OK

wat is TIM? provide an explination please

i've had 2 powercolor 4730's. the first the fan packed in and the second didn't display anything, then i tried the sapphire version and ebuyer sent a ex-deisplay version, i ordered new so i found the zotac gts 250 and it was about £10 more and performed alot better

Maybe its because I live In Cali but Umm why didn't anybody say " regardless of sound issues playing games with your gpu fans at/or below %50 fan speed under load is asking for trouble again regardless if the heat sink was loose or not ( I know this from reading literally thousands of posts on several sites)2 Why does everybody on this site compare the 6000 series with the 570/580 Nvidia, the series title is a misnomer everybody that read anything before and after the launch (untill recently for reasons I Have no idea why)That even with the higher numbering on the series they were meant as a new midrange/series not a true successor to the 5000 series they were rumored to have a completely new GPU design which never happened they just used the same core with a few things tweeked and took off some transistors Now again its great they crossfire better but if you look at the specs their lower enough to matter I have seen this on several sites but its never mentioned here really. But I'm glad you fixed your card

you lost me dude

, to me not enough thermal compound was applied to the gpu hence the high temp and the fact it was loose . was not the 69** aimed at the 32nm silicon instead of the 40nm ? , could this be the cause of the heat ?

umm yeah you said it and its obvious that was the problem, but i'd like to add if you manually leave the fan and 50% or less under heavy load it might fry it too their a reason when they get real hot they get louder just saying and the 6000 series was supposed to be 32nm but no its the same core 40nm with less transistors and some tessellation tweeks and their actually a little less powerful but the newer drivers help to cover that up. think about it all marketing aside you release a very powerful line up thats also very expensive so to cover the rest of the market you release a midrange series but they name it a higher number which i think it ether a mistake or a marketing ploy . think about it even if it was some magical leap in tech you would not be able to release a card at $200-400 that could beat a %800-$1200 card 6 months apart... its all in the link I've read many like it

to me the 68** series is overpriced in the uk as some places the 6870 is nearly the same price as the 6950 , as for the temps i was told on the amd game forums that the max temp for the 6900 series is 124c which seems excessive if you ask me . if this is correct then why are powercolor telling people that the max safe temp is 95c ?

I'm not sure 124c wow that does seen excessive and around here its a 50-60$ price difference(2 gig models) between the 6950-6970 and since not all cards from different companies are created equal,(great idea going to powercolor) some have different pcbs and some have different coolers attached... I'd always read all the reviews I can on the exact make and model in question

the prices are very close $20 on 1 gb models what a rip with rebate its $10 difference

Wow I really need to switch to decaf lolz

Wow i was either gonna buy one of those from ebuyer or what i saw this morning which i expect tom will probably be reviewing in a few hours: an msi 6870 twin frozr, at 210 quid and strangely near identical performance in crysis and metro to the 6900 cards this may be the better buy i think. only sacrifice is the extra gig of vram and single crossfire finger

whoa 6850-6870-6950-6970

Correct me if I'm wrong the extra ram is for higher res on larger monitors and multi displays right?

yes we need one of toms thorough reviews 4 of these is to much for my grey matter

heres a better link

and they took off a crossfire connection hmmmm even on the 40nm 6900s FTW

But when you consider they get ~60fps on most demanding games @1920x1200 in dual crossfire (6870s) you don't really mind. and yeah the vram is for higher res so if you're intending to use one large monitor rather than three standard ones in eyefinity these are more cost effective. plus good overclocking and supposed to last 10 years in a 24/7 load scenario, starting to like msi a lot lately
