6970 Graphic Cards

And to add to what Alien just said, the 570 drivers will add performance also... And we know the difference between nvidia and AMD driver release cycles and quality on average.

Well it's up to AMDs release cycle how long you'll have to say it. Maybe they'll do an nvidia and push out something that fixes the issues sooner than expected. Either way nobody can accuse you of not being fair to the two camps

. I get a sense of anticlimax and almost sadness from those that love ATI, but it may indeed have just been a wall they hit with thermals...

Dude updated drivers aren't going to help. Watch Tom's video. They're (compared to the 5XXX series rads) too hot, too loud and not very fast. Note how Tom is comparing them to the 4xx series Nvidia.

As such the 570 is, to repeat a phrase (only this time in green) cooler, quieter ETC.

Honestly, the 570 beats the 6970 in such a fashion that I simply would not touch the 6 series cards..

The backplate led me to wonder what was going on with these cards.

It feels strange (yet rather nice) to say this but I think it's time for you ATI owners to go green tbh. Well, at least this time.

Ed. Even if the new drivers do improve performance you still have to take into consideration that they still cost more than the 570.

Ed 2. And can't fold, do physx or offer CUDA.

I agree totally maybe two 580 in my future. I hate to say it but I'm going green.

I'm disapointed with the results shown.

Do you think i'd be better going with two 6870s instead?

Or wait for the 6990?

It's all swings and roundabouts. Depending on your perspective (Red Or Green) one company has usually enjoyed top dog spot for an extended period. Nvidia had a great GTX 200 series cards beating ATI on price And/Or performance on almost every price point, from the GTX 260 right up to the GTX 295. Then AMD came back with 5000 series, now it's Nvidia's turn again. Once AMD have time to get it right again, they will back on top. As someone from the green camp this means i am a happy bunny as i will trade in my GTX280 for something a little shinier - GTX 570 next month

Nice prices and I just got my 6870

I might try sell it and get a 6950 would it be worth it?

I was expecting these cards to be on top but NVIDIA preempted the onslaught.

The 6970 is supposedly the 2nd fastest single GPU now but it uses less power and heat, can anyone shed light on the power consumption and heat/noise.

You might aswell get the GTX 570, brought mine a couple of days ago and its a bloody good card.

So just to confirm I ran heaven at exactly the same settings and on my 470 and this is what I came up with.

Now if you consider that the 5870 was about ten percent faster than the 470 and the 6970 is ten percent faster (because it is) then that means that the 6970 in a way is no better than the 5870. And you can get a 5870 for about £180 if you look around.

Oh and I haven't even touched the overclocking slider on my 470 yet. That's coming up soon.

Single 6970 running my rig stock w/ latest drivers (10.12a).

3DMark Vantage:

3DMark 11:

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/203190

Drivers are not Futuremark approved, card memory is not displayed properly (1MB??).

Ran stock to compare w/ my 5870 benches. 10% improvement in 3DMark Vantage, nearly 25% improvement with 3DMark 11.

Gotta do some more game benchmarks.

I'm not blown away, but satisfied.
