hey guys,

im in the market for a new gfx card and have seem these deals

Gigabtye 6800Ultra

or

BFG 7800GT

is the 6800ultra still adaquete enough for todays games at 1280 x 1024 with everything on or should i stretch that little bit further... tbh i dont game that often but when i do i want it to be pretty (it always is tho to be honest compared to the xbox) ive had a 6800gt from bfg and that played everything i chucked at it then i had an x800xl... so would i see a huge difference in upping to the 7800gt

btw i have an x300 for gfx at the moment so im not upgrading from a 6800gt or anythign otherwise this would be a stupid question :P

Definatly 7800gt, 6800u wont cope with all the new games at 1280x1024 with the eye candy is turned up. Some 7800gt's are pretty good clockers aswell so would perform even better when clocked.;)

At that resolution I doubt that there is a huge amount in it, although I have recently been playing with a 7800GTX EE vs a 6800U, in 3DMark06 the Return to Proxycon during the draining sequences the 7800GTX would be around 12FPS, where as the 6800U would be at 7FPS. Remember that this is an overclocked GTX at 526/1417.

What it comes down to is what games you'll be playing, and whether you would actually notice much difference. I think it also depends what you're offered, if you can pick up a 7800GT cheap you may aswell go for that...

If you really would like to know, I could knock the GTX speeds down to GT std, vs Ultra std and bench them?

that would be ace mate and im v interested, basically the card i buy now is to tide me over till the dx10 cards come out by which time ill have upped my server to pci-ex and will be popping whichever card i buy in the next couple of weeks into that...

i mostly play fps's and racing games nothing else really... im wavering towards the 7800gt as its not too much more so itll probably be the better investment..

cheers stocky and roll on the benchies

I`d vote 7800GT- its quieter, better, less heat.

@Stocky- mind to lock the extra shader and the 4 pipes to get true GT performance :) :D

Im on a 6800 Ultra now, and i must say im not changing gfx's for a while.

I can play pretty good AA, and AF @ 1280*1024 which is good for my 17''. Get around 80-90 fps in bf2, goes to 60fps when artilerry is comming down :p but if your're running a 1280*1024 reso i dont see why a 6800Ultra is not enough.

But if you can spare the extra £50, then yeh get the 7800GT :)

the scores are very intersting cheers for that stocky...

i think im gonna be getting myself the 7800gt and a new 19" acer widescreen monitor... mind you i could go for a dell2005fp and save money by going for the ultra although it would start losing out at the dells res...

gahh decisions decisions... its gotta be the dell cos i have one before, sold it and have pined for another ever since

new dilemma as someones just bought my new shuttle case,

x1800xl or 7800gt? or is the xt comparable with the gt ... damn you gfx card makers and your 50 million cards

Overclocker has used both, and strongly recommends the X1800XL. After seeing his bench results, I cant argue with his judgement. Both should perform about the same in games, but the X1800XL gets another 1K in `05 without much bother.

Gotta ask yourself though, if your getting 7800GT, only £34 more to get a fully fledged 7900GT from (an online shop)!

Sorry, your bank hates me ;)
