680 SLI surround + accessory not working

I can't seem to get my accessory display to play nice with my surround on 680sli

I have 3 benq xl2420ts connected via dldvi (2 on master card 1 on slave card)

I'm trying to connect my dell w2913wm as accessory. I tried displayport first on the master card (guides say I can use either displayport or hdmi). Didn't work - when I plugged it in it broke surround, disabled 2 of the xl2420ts and enabled the dell. When I went to configure surround options it said I could span surround on the 2420ts but the dell 'would not be used'.

Nvidia keep mentioning active displayport-dldvi adapters (for 3d, but I thought - who knows) so to rule out a display port issue I've tried using hdmi on the master card and it's the same result.

Method:

320.00 driver
enable surround (disables accessory)
close nvcp
open nvcp
tick accessory display in 'set up multiple displays'

Working now.
