670 vs 680

Question is though, is the £100 more worth the small performance increase? Not forgetting you can get a 4gb 670 for the price of a 2gb 680.

why even bother with 4gb? pardon my ignorance but i was under the impression that nothing of today's generation will be bottlenecked by 2gb vram. there are some reviews that suggest that 1.5gb is a bottleneck, but then they use inferior cards, and claim the fps drop is because of vram... and as for future-proofing, surely the actual card performance would be obsolete by the time 2gb of vram are needed in games?

I do agree with the getting a 4gb for the price of a 2gb 680 BUT out of all my games I only have about 4 that utilize 2gb so I am not to concerned. Second if you think the way you do about price no one would go far in the world of advanced computing. By that logic it's not worth getting an i7 over an i5 because the performance in most applications is not noticeable. So yes I do believe the 680 is worth the extra 100 for the fact it is a BETTER card, no matter how little it is, the fact is "it is still better."

Yeah, 2gb is enough now, the operative word being "now"

PC games and development of pushing hardware further is being held back by consoles. When the next Xbox and PS come out this changes because consoles go DX11. So, even your average console port will have high res textures and tessellation meaning they will also be more vram demanding.

With console games getting more demanding, PC games will get even more demanding, DX11 will be as standard so pushing it further is the next step. This isn't going to happen strait away, but it will happen slowly over time and if you can afford a 4gb card now you may as well get it knowing that when games do get more demanding you are covered.

Thats based on the price of a 4gb 670 though, I wouldn't pay the ridiculous price Nvidia are asking for the 4gb 680s.

680's are unavailable everywhere where I am. And since I'm gonna game on one screen at 1920x1080 i figured it's not worth the extra cost.

670 4gb all the way, you can get a realy nice 4gb superclocked one from evga with a great cooler, nice overclocking and stupendously small size and power draw - with a nice backplate

- That is £100 cheaper than a 680 2GB, for me it's a no brainer. Also the small size and power draw is going to make sli a joy, especially when watercooled. When i sell my 460's, I know what i'm buying

PS: forgot to mention 4 monitors off one card
