5870 in X-fire

I have Asus 5870 v2 at the moment. Very recently 5870s became extremely cheap and I have a chance to purchase another Asus 5870 v2 for really cheap. I was wondering your opinions should I just go and crossfire or are the recently released cards really worth the hustle of selling/buying nightmare?

Benchmark one using Vantage. Then add 90% of your 3dmarks to what you have now and it will give you a rough idea of what to expect.

I am not a benchmark freak to be honest. I would like to add some extra juice(although I probably don't really need it) and use the opportunity to do that for little money. with all these 6xxx series numbers so messed up I sort of lost track of what is what. I guess what I am asking is how is 5870 doing comparing to the 6xxx series. I run it on Crosshair IV so I've got to stick with ATI.

In a way it's a good way of gauging what sort of speed increases you have gained from upgrades, or, to compare your rig to others.

And no, you don't have to stick to ATI. SLI hackpatch FTW. But, FWIW if I were you I would deffo add 5870 2. Even though I don't particularly like CF I do like a bargain, and nothing else you can buy at that price point will offer anywhere near the kind of speed boosts for the cash tbh.

Continue guys hehe, It looks interesting. I have mixed feeling tbh, I've heard that XFire got much better with new drivers. I can get ASUS 5870 v2 for about 150-170pounds, therefore looks for me like a little money for a nice boost. On the other note, I did not know that I can run SLI on Crosshair IV, then there's an option for double 570s for me now...Would definitely cost me much more. In this case what sort of % performance boost we are talking about.Because if its sth like 10-20% it simply not worth it.

Can't you figure it out?

In some threads you will notice that some people want to drop a nut on a pair of expensive cards. In others you have people looking for a cheap performance boost. So it's not simple or clear cut.

If some one, IMO, is about to dump £400 on say, a pair of 6870 I would advise a 580. If you have £400 invest it into one card.

If say, you have a 5870 and can get another one for what they are selling for now? then by all means ! go Crossfire. Just know about the headaches.

Thinking about it and from what he has said I'm not 100% sure that Junglerog should go Crossfire tbh. I mean, he's made it clear he's not really into benchmarking and if he is a gamer and can afford it then maybe the 580 is the way to go.

Well I am a gamer but I do not play all this flashy Crysis, metro etc type of games. I play mmorpgs and to be honest single 5870 does the job. I remember when I was buying my 5870 about 5-6 months ago I read somewhere on this forum that 5870 in crossfire is basically overkill for anything on the market atm and my plan was to crossfire it once opportunity arise. Funny how all of this changes..

I yet to see some table with the results for for example 6xxx models, some new Nvidias and 5870.

I think i will just go ahead and get myself second 5870.

Me personaly, I would go for it. If you have the cash nowm then just crossfire it. You will get a great performace boost, and for a much lower price than you payed for the first 5870. Set it up as a crossfire rig and skip this gen of cards. Its what Im doing with my 5850.
