570 GTX - Which brand?

Hey guys, newbie here. Been watching some of the video reviews on Youtube which brought me here.

I'm looking at upgrading to a 570 GTX and OC'ing it to hopefully get around the same performance as a 580 GTX. I game at 1920x1080 so I think maybe a 580 GTX would be overkill for what I need it for. I was originally looking at the 570 GTX Phantom (What a lovely looking card!) but your reviewer said that unfortunately voltage tweaks aren't officially supported on it, which I guess will limit my OC'ing abilities.

When he said "You can't up the voltages officially", can you do it by other means? Also would this void the warranty with Gainward?

I'm really cautious by voiding my warranty.

So based purely on the fact I want to OC my 570 GTX, which would you recommend?

Also, are MSI planning to bring out a non-reference 570 card soon?

I have the Phantom as of yesterday

It's a great card, but it doesn't support voltage tweak as you say. Performs great @ 1080p though. Managed to knock the core to 800mhz without a hitch - havn't even tried to push it further yet - it's pretty much maxing every game i throw at it (including Metro and Crysis). Runs cool and quiet too.

Other than the Phantom there is the Gainward Golden Sample Gtx 570 SC Edition, a couple of Palit Sonic cards and then there's the EVGA SC Edition.

Theres the gigabyte superoc version, msi twin frozr, asus direct cu II. Options aplenty. The new afterburner beta allows voltage tweaks which will be helpful for oc'ing if u get a phantom.

Thank you for the tip +rep. It seems to work. Max voltage is 1.150. Stock voltage is 1.000.

Voltage seems to be going up in small steps though. Can't seem to set the EXACT voltage, only @ 1.000,1.013,1.025,1.038,1.050 intervals. Is this normal?

Nice, so can you OC the phantom more with the voltage tweaks Purple?

I can't see to find the Twin Frozr 570 on any of my normal sites I order from, OcUK, ebuyer or even scan. They have the 580 Twin Frozr though.

Yes, seems i can. Furmark stable (albeit only 10mins lol

) at 920mhz and 1.150volts, will now test in games. Looks like 950mhz might be possible. Looks good though.

Just a word of advice. If you do get the Phantom try to keep fan speed at around <50% at all times. Anything more and it really start to sing.

Here's the cheapest non-reference 570 i could find - cooler performs well (i think), Palit are parent company to Gainward and they are a decent brand imo.

Damn that's a great overclock!

I'm used to noisy fans, don't worry. I have a scythe ultra kaze 3000 as my CPU cooler, I think that's noisier now than 90% of GPU's will be at max load.

I may go for the 570 Twin frozr, I wasn't aware they even had it made yet, since it's not on my 3 main sites, I'm unsure ordering from other sites, is MSI's customer service good?

Yup its normal. Same with my gtx 580's its the beta version thats why theyll probly fine tune it.

One of the best customer services (at least) which i have encountered.

That's good, if i bought the 570 GTX Twin Frozr I get the feeling i'm going to have to rely on MSI since the big component companies haven't got any.

So it's re-assuring their CS is good. I also assume their warranty fully covers you for OC'ing too since they made afterburner.
