£500 for a motherboard and cpu. Whats the best value?

Thanks alot. My plan to have two rigs has turned into a single rig right after the kids killed both my motherboard and 6700k (the 6700k was for a few mins then died) and the mrs killed my threadripper build crashing the car with all my kids in. Luckily all my family is safe but my car needs 2k of repairs.

Thanks man. It was a bad day my uncle died and in the rush to get back to me to tell me the mrs banged the car. That wasnt a great phone call from the mrs. The threadripper build didn't seem so important after that call

Yeah a reality slap will do that to you. I get deep into s**t (and it is just s**t in the grand scheme of things !) but life always has a way of keeping you grounded.
Hope you get your PC sorted. I hate seeing a brother down like that. I'd be lost without mine :S

It def feels weird. I have spent my time trying to clean up all the glass from the bits that survived. It's tough though because I usually stay busy when I'm stressed and that usually involves my pc

I have just ordered a b350 strix. I took a look at all the higher price boards and didnt think they offered much more. I got it for a shade over £100 which was great. I have ordered a ryzen 1700. I just need to see how it plays with Corsair vengeance ddr4 pc 3000 e-die samsung chips.

Should be safe as houses IMO. From what I recall it's when you go 3200 and beyond that some memory brands can cause issues.
You're going to love the audio on that board. It's the top end Realtek chip and it has a dedicated headphone amp powered by Nichicon gold caps.
The only thing it is missing is the IO cover. But hell, I would make one of those. Fantastic board for the price, I bet Asus have sold a metric ton of them. But hey, I am criticising a board that costs just over £100 which I have no right to when it comes decked out like it does.

I spent some time looking at the x370 boards. It was hard to justify a mid range x370 board that cost 150 when its nearly 50% more expensive but not 50% more value. Its funny when you get to very high end boards 50 or 60 more doesnt feel like so much but at the value end its a deal breaker.
On the positive side..I picked up a temporary laptop today locally with a dead hard drive so im back online on a pc. I swapped a hd for a spare ssd and now i have a year old i3 laptop for less than a hundred.. thanks to the savings i made on the motherboard and cpu. win.
Update. A big box arrived today. I opened it and pulled out my ryzen 1700 and not the mobo I ordered. the mrs intercepted an email saying the b350 strix was out of stock and changed it for the x370 strix board.
And the best part is the reason why. It had more usb ports on the back. So obviously it was better
