5 years, about time for an upgrade methinks

Hey guys it's been 4 or 5 years since my last upgrade and I think it's about due time. I'd love some opinions / suggestions on my potential build. The processor has already been bought (4930k) so that's a must. I will be using this new rig for mainly gaming @ 1440p once I buy an Asus PB278Q

So I am going from:

Intel i5-750
4gb DDR3 Gskill ripjaws
Asus P7P55D-E pro
2 x xfx radeon HD5770
500gb Segate HDD for OS/games etc.
3tb Hitachi HDD for media

and here's what I'm thinking:

Intel 4930k (already purchased)
Corsair H110?
Asus x79 Sabertooth
16gb Corsair Dominator platinum ddr3 1600mhz
1 x HyperX 3k ssd 120gb for OS and a few programs
1 x Samsung 840 pro 256gb for games
Corsair AX1200I PSU - overkill?
Asus xonar STX soundcard - waste of money? I use Sennheiser PC360 and have never owned a soundcard before. I will also probably buy Audioengine A5+ down the road
Case will be either the obsidian 750D or phantek gentoo primo

As for the GPU's i'm not sure if I should just use my 5770's for the time being until the new GPU's come out or go ahead and pull the trigger on a 780TI? Don't mind waiting if it makes sense.

I wouldn't waste money on an SSD below 240/256GB now. 120GB just isn't enough when you bare in mind you need to keep 10~20% free for load levelling so you realistically only have 100GB to work with, which in my eyes becomes a pain in the ass.

yes that PSU is waaay overkill.
Essence STX is a must for gaming if you ask me, especially if you're a headphone guy.

If you're pulling the trigger on all this and then bung in a 5770 it's just not going to pull it's weight, if I were you I'd just go balls deep on it fella, if you hang around you'll be waiting for 'the next big thing' all the time.

Jus'do'it!

As SuB said. Buy and don't look back :p

An AX860(i) or RM850 will provide you with plenty power and you should even be able to add another GPU down the line.

Dominator Platinum is great looking RAM, but you pay for the looks. Looking at your entire spec list it seems like you don't necessarily mind that, but might I suggest Vengeance Gold, which has the same specs but will go well with your motherboard's colour scheme and is a bit cheaper.

Go either the 780Ti or a R9 290/x and don't worry about the 5770's an 850 psu and get 1866 ram rather than the 1600 and as has already been said a 250/6 ssd and an Evo should do the trick you don't really need the pro

Some very good advice already.

Ditch the gpus you have and upgrade to the best you can afford.
Lower the wattage of the psu.
Up the ram frequency.
Up the ssd capacity and run everything from it.
Sound card wise, if it were between one or adding more cash for another gpu I'd go for another gpu.
CPU cooling depends on if your overclocking and your case configuration.

Alright sounds good guys thanks for the great info. I'm going to drop the PSU to the Corsair ax860 as recommended. You think 1 ssd is better than 1 for OS as well as 1 for games? Might hold off on soundcard to either get a better mobo or better gpu. Would higher frequency ram make a big difference? I could just oc 1600 to 1866 if possible

On my 250 g ssd I have my OS, BF4, MWO,Office, Power dvd and Crysis with room to spare everything else goes to a WD Green, the Sabretooth is a good enough M/B so get a better Gpu and don't Oc the ram just buy bigger ram in the first place

Alright bit of a quick update, just purchased a 500gb samsung evo ssd as per suggested and pulled the trigger on the motherboard as well. I will look into the Vengence gold or other 1866mhz sets.

Now you should get a 290x/780ti. I don't know why Corsair PSUs are the only things that people seem to buy these days(just trying to be different) but you could look for a Seasonic X series, NZXT Hale 90 series, or a Silverstone Strider Serires.. all very capable PSUs.

Actually I was looking at the Be Quiet! Dark power Pro 10 1000w PSU. Seems to have decent reviews and it's only 50 bucks more than the AX860.

I also have the Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x8gb 1866mhz RAM in mind. 9-9-9-27. They seem to be a decently priced kit and OC3D reviewed the 8gb kit and gave it the gold award. Seems like a good route to take

The Be Quiet should be ok the main reason people like Corsair like me is 1: Reliability 2: Warranty Service Second To None 3: Factory Made Braided Cables just to name three and nothing wrong with your choice of ram

Alright time for another update! Put through the order on the majority of the tech. All that`s missing is the GPU!

So here is what I have ordered thus far:

Intel 4930k
Asus Sabertooth X79 2011
Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB DDR3-1866
Samsung 500GB EVO
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 1000W
Corsair H110 AIO CPU cooler
2 x Noctua NF-A14 PWM to replace the stock fans on the rad

Have to decide on a GPU whether I go team green or team red and then down the road I will probably add an Asus Xonar STX and purchase a 1440p monitor and boom there we go. I am stoked to get the new parts and get this all together. Thanks for all the input and if you have any other suggestions please let me know!

Sounds like a solid build so far. Asus just came out with an STX 2 but i'm unsure if its available to you yet(its not in the US). As for the gpu/monitor i would get some aftermarket 290x( if you ever Xfire 290x scaling is very good, hence why i choose it) with any of the 1440p monitors you like as in the brand name ones or the cheaper ones from Korea that are becoming more popular since they are cheaper. Few OC3D members have these monitors and none have problems with them from what afaik. They can also overclock these monitors for not only a 1440p/IPS combo but in addition to higher refresh rate for smoothness.
