4850

I'm not much of an overclocker, so I don't know hardly anything about the process.

I'm looking to bump my 4850 up enough to run Crysis on Very High, and I was wondering if someone could help me out with the values I need to enter in CCC.

on what resolution? to run it on very high you would need 3x280 gtx's to get a descent frame rate

Think ya can get v high on 1024x768 but not sure if ya can with the 4850. Perhaps 4870 and above.

even so.. my 8800gtx can only just manage high on 1280x1024... I reckon you will need atleast a 280gtx for very high on any resolution

Half ways down the page my man..

"I tested @ 1024x768 on high 16Q AA and averaged 55fps, and Very High DX9 no AA 1024x768 averaged 46fps."

Link!

& this one has a few too.

wow... my 8800gtx really is more out of date than i thought :(

Yeah I think the GT was pushing the GTX hard at low res.. It was at mid to high res that the GTX was still king over it due to the higher memory and bandwidth.

I OC'd the card to 690MHz for the GPU clock and 1090MHz for the memory clock.

I started up Crysis with everything on Very High and no Anti-Ailiasing and was getting what seemed like 20 frames or so.

Then my monitors went black xD

Now I've set it to 670MHz and 1050MHz with 65% fanspeed.

*EDIT*

1440x900 Resolution

*EDIT* (again)

I started up GPU-Z, and look and the clock speeds!

LOL! I wish that was accurate

To run Crysis properly at VH settings at 1440-900 you'll need at least a HD4870 or GTX260 or higher. Crysis doesn't really improve much when increasing/decreasing resolution due to bad optimizations (which I believe is fixed in Crysis Warhead).

If you want to run it on VH on a HD4850 then I suggest overclocking the core to around 700MHz and the mem to around 1100MHz and to keep safe temps perhaps buy a 3rd party cooler (I highly recommend the Accelero S1 or the upcoming T-Rad2). And download some Crysis tweaked cvars which improve Crysis's look visually whilst maintaining good framerates.
