45 degrees ??

Seems to be pretty good, but its hard to say. A competitor website found the fenrir slightly better (1C) on AMD, but it is about £10-15 more expensive, so it all depends what you need. I mainly bought the tranquilo for the silence, as it is drowned out by nearly anything else (i.e. the graphics card, PSU, other case fans). Only problem is that it can only be mounted so the fan faces the GPU, which means a lot of hot air is exhausted to the top of the case and the PSU, not the rear case fan.

Ahh ok then, seems like you can never always have it the way you want it : (

Just spotted this about the fenrir http://hardwarebistro.com/index.php...view=67-Titan-Fenrir-TTC-NK85TZ-Cooler-Review

Not sure if it's just me but it looks like it doesn't have my style of cpu cooler clamp?

Maybe i'm reading it wrong tho, i thought zalman were the best coolers out these days anyhoo.

To be honest i need a few things for my pc, a new case gpu an a cooler, probably a new psu too lol.

But anyway, i'm getting ahead of myself, going back to my original query, how would you guys use thermal paste? Would u use a bb blob or spread it? Going to get some noctua from amazon in a minute so will test a few methods when i get it.

Some coolers have their own backplate, a lot of coolers for the AMD socket use the backplate on the board. With regards to the paste, generally I reckon spread a thin layer on the heatspreader of the cpu and that should do. The blob method is only needed for the really viscous pastes.Zalman used to be reasonably good (9500 still cools my mum's pc), but better options exist now.

The TRUE held the performance crown for a while, but its passed to noctua, whilst the cheaper end is probably the titan/ akaska nero S (I've heard good things).

Ok then it's Noctua and the erm, fenrir then i think, or i may take another look around.

the only noctua that is worth it is the dh14 but if prive is a issue then the titan fenrir is the best for bang4buck,you will be able to lite oc,but it all depends on the airflow

i have 1090t with them and they were fine.

and diablo is regarding to that cooler using a athalon 2 your using a phenom 2 so bear that in mind.

noctua-best performance

megahalms-midrange

titan-best bang4buck

I'm referring to the gelid tranquilo on an athlon, not the fenrir. I've seen the gelid do fine on phenoms but it really depends what your budget is and how far you want to clock it. It also kind of depends on what the noise your prepared to put up with is. I dare say a delta on the fenrir would knock the noctua into next week, but nobody could live with that noise.

TO be honest i was referring to the noctua thermal paste, i think one of you mentioned as it is runny and will provide a good solution for paste.

As regards to the cooler i will get on my pc, i really don't know, i am planning to spend around £30 so i will probably get the most expensive one in that price range.
