3DMark artifacts

I`m messing around with CPU speeds and my card at default and I`m getting bad artifacting while running 3DMark. Can CPU instability cause it, or could I have a problem with my card? Temps are fine- 25-30 CPU and 37-45 card.

Cheers!

Spiky type artifacts. I upped my CPU voltage and its almost gone. I really gotta try sorting things myself instead of posting for help straight away :$

Thanks!

It shouldn't happen on default settings only when you are maxxed out should you start getting artifacts.

Sounds like you may need to RMA the card as it will only get worse.

Didn't see the default part of the post (sorry).

mmmmm try re-seating the card or in fact normal cooling or lower CPU clocks - RMA is more likely though :(

It seems to be CPU related. I backed off the CPU to where I know its stable and 3DMark runs artifact-free, as do games. I`d always thought artifacts only came from graphics instability.

Sounds like power.

I've seen and heard of that problem before and at stock gpu clocks but high cpu clocks if it's not the GPU/GPUram then it's normally that the PSU can't supply the juice, or there's something up with the AGP/PCI-E slot.

If you remove and reseat the card in the slot, make sure that the connector for power to the card is well seated and the pins on the plug aren't expanded, then if you've got access to a loaner PSU that's better, then you could have a try.

Your PSU is very good and all that, but if you're pulling really hard on the CPU, and it goes away when you back off on the CPU clocks, then it could be power related. so it's worth checking out.

if it is a problem with the pci-e slot maybe try the other to see if its the same problem.

With those mods done aswell an RMA sounds off the cards aswell unfortunately :(

I know of at 4 successfull RMA'd GTX's that had been volt modded with mods carefully removed ;)

At the mo, I`m gonna blame the CPU and its lack of OC ability. My better Opto manages fine at higher speeds, with the same voltage.

If need be, I reckon I could make the card look unmodded ;)

if you are good enough with the soldering iron (if thats how you vmodded the card) then like some people you can get the bits off without a trace.
